Web browser: --- Bug ID: 59898 Summary: Confusing position of gender setting notice Product: MediaWiki Version: 1.23-git Hardware: All OS: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: Unprioritized Component: User preferences Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org Reporter: 326...@gmail.com CC: agarr...@wikimedia.org Classification: Unclassified Mobile Platform: --- Created attachment 14279 --> https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=14279&action=edit screenshot: internationalisation section With the "gender setting notice" I mean this text: "Setting this preference is optional. The software uses its value to address you and to mention you to others using the appropriate grammatical gender. This information will be public." I think the position of the notice is confusing and suggest: Place the notice immediately below "How do you prefer to be described?", in the same table cell. Further motivation: It is especially confusing if you only/first read "Setting this preference is optional", and even when you read the whole thing it might not be (instantly) clear that "grammatical gender" = "How do you prefer to be described?". For instance, it could be taken to mean that "More language settings" is optional. (It immediately precedes the link, and those settings aren't even shown here, so it makes sense that they're optional.) Or else it could mean that everything in the internationalisation section is optional+public, since the notice sort of ends that section. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
