[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Created] T129823: BC (Before Christ) times are not correct in wikidata

2016-03-13 Thread Luo123n
Luo123n created this task.
Herald added a subscriber: Aklapper.

TASK DESCRIPTION
I find that BC times in Wikidata are usually 1 year ahead of the real year.

  For example,
Rome is founded in 753 BC, but Wikidata says 752 BC
Cleopatra died in 30 BC, but Wikidata says 29 BC

but, there are correct ones, for example,
the birth date and death date of Virgil (Q1398) is correct.

I guess this has something to do with internal Georgian Calendar used by
Wikidata, which says year 0 should be 1 BC, and year -1 should be 2 BC. And
perhaps programmers didn't handle this very well when importing data.

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Commented On] T128173: Represent editions as interwiki links on Wikisource

2016-03-13 Thread Gymel
Gymel added a comment.

What I was aiming at: There seems to be a general problem underlying this
concrete issue: Wikidata items connected to some WS page typically (?) have
exactly one sitelink (namely to the WS page in question) but still there are
~closely related~ items "in other languages" (*and* also the same language)
which could be presented. So a rather general mechanism could be thought of
involving traversing up and back down a ~suitable~ WD property and its inverse
- but what property that might be should be under control of the Wikisource
article - e.g. "edition or translation of" in the case of poems and "main
subject" in the case of encyclopedic articles. I'm quite sure we'll find even
more examples on closer investigation.

Definitely not the "Described by source" and "Main subject" relationship.
They are associated though no direct relationship between separately published
works about a subject. This ticket is about the direct relationship between a
work and its editions or its translations, and the second generation
relationship between an edition in one language, and a translation in another
(as an interlanguage link).

I am not sure if this is the same issue, but when i tried to fill in the
fairly rare https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/P1410 for California, which has
"required qualifier", it showed me options like "image source", which obviously
has nothing to do with https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/P1410. It would be a
great help if when I fill out the property, it would automatically show first
required, and later - optional qualifiers, so that I don't have to search for
them.

So, should we first start with taking the browsers language and having
something like ?lang=fr to enable languages in completion and tooltips?
As a next step integrate a language selector and translate UI.
