but wikibase/data-model still isn't in your composer.lock?
Could be some sort of bug with the composer merge plugin?

The main issue from my point of view (it's the reason I noticed at least) is that queries including things like wd:Q1707 p:P625/psv:P625 [ wikibase:geoLatitude ?lat ; wikibase:geoLongitude ?lon ]

IMO I don't see why merging 2 entities of whatever type should for example be any different to moving 2 pages of a different namespace or deleting 2 pages of a different namespace or content type.
