daniel added a comment. Technically, we only dropped the (rather strange) XML serialization format used by the mediawiki api. We still support XML for the RDF mapping, see https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:EntityData/Q664.rdf. For most cases though, I'd recommend the canonical JSON format
