I don't think there's any need to use the composer-merge-plugin here...if something is a MW extension, it should be under the mw/extensions/ hierarchy in Gerrit, and brought in through the normal deployment process. It would be really interesting in seeing Wikidata built with Vue.js - if you were to take that approach would you build something on top of RESTBase or would you build on top of MediaWiki's stack (and replicate functionality where needed?) I'm quite interested in approaches with the former.. particularly given the rise of progressive web apps and interest in many of the applications that @Magnus has built. In case you were not aware I replicated the entirety of MobileFrontend in a React app and it wasn't too difficult and in many ways it was liberating - https://trending.wmflabs.org/.

One of the common things I hear about us not adopting frameworks is that we'll make the wrong decision and migrating is hard, but the good thing about common frameworks is that usually someone has already experienced migrating from one to another and documented their experience (e.g. Vue.js to React.js).

Note that these coordinates are not "invalid" per-se. The LatLongValue class in Wikibase does have a range check that limits latitude and longitude to ]-360, +360[. This is done on purpose and not a mistake. It depends on the globe if a coordinate like "120° N, 111° E" can be considered valid or not.

Here are some ideas of what can be done:


Make sure external validation tools for wikidata.org know about this and suggest to fix coordinates on Earth that have weird values like this.
We could add an actual validation step to the Wikibase code base that limits the values, in case the globe is known to be Earth. We already have code that hard-codes http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q2 in multiple places, so this would not even introduce a new dependency.
Make the code that consumes such values aware of it, and either skip or transform them. Transformation is possible, because these coordinates still describe a unique point on a globe, even if the format is "invalid". There is even existing code for said normalization in https://github.com/DataValues/Geo/blob/master/src/GlobeMath.php.

SerializerFactory could still have newItemSerializer() and newPropertySerializer() methods. That would be consistent with the idea that this class provides serializers for the basic entity types.

One specific issue caused by code using SerializerFactory::newEntitySerializer instead of  instance of WikibaseRepo::getEntityDeserializer is T160426.

Having a separate box for Commons would make it a lot clearer that commons links can be added in the same way that other sister sites can be.

Showing a difference helps conveying that there is no difference? Quite an oxymoron.

Having a separate box or section for a single site doesn't make sense. Commons is a "singleton" project, like meta, not a family, so a section isn't useful for grouping. It has nothing to do with how often it appears, or how big or important the project is.

Use EntityIdComposer instead EntityId::newFromNumber in client

Reason:
Using the composer only makes sense if either the entity type is variable, or the repo prefix is (or if there is a chance we will make one of it variable in the near future). Neither is the case here. We know the repo prefix is empty. We know the type is "item". Nothing wrong with using the static constructor then. The "wb_items_per_site" table that is used here (via SiteLinkTable) does not support repo prefixes, and as far as I know it does not need to.
