The purpose for these languages is outlined in the task description: there is a text corpus in these languages (authored by Tolkien and some others), and some of it (e. g. first lines of poems and names of things) qualifiers for inclusion in Wikidata. It can be in one of 3 states: item on Wikdata does not have matching P1472 (and the page should be there) item on Wikdata has matching P1472 and creator page shows " Category:Creator templates with Wikidata link: item missing linkback" in category list (problem #1) item on Wikdata has matching P1472 and creator page does not show " Category:Creator templates with Wikidata link: item missing linkback" in category list (problem #2) You can get from state 1 to state 2 by adding P1472 to wikidata item (press Up arrow with wikidata logo for easiest way), and from state 2 to state 3 by purging the creator page. Sometimes we do this based on wikidata, but we are pretty much limited to a few cases, defined in P1465, P1792, P1464 or very special usage of P910 (e.g. if astronomical object belongs to some constellation). If I want to automatically place categories like Q8454640 to the films, directed by James Marsh, I probably would need a designated property. Alternatively I should be able to do it via extracting items that has P971:Q2720543 and simultaneously P971:Q29017630. This may sound like reinventing SPARQL queries, but getting results of getBacklinks(Q2720543) and getBacklinks(Q29017630) and performing list intersection in lua would work for me. Two more random thoughts: There might be two separate issues here: (1) page pulling data from Wikidata not updated after edit on Wikidata and (2) that page purge removes category from the page but does not trigger removal of the page from the category Related to issue 1: is there a way to look up a list of pages that should be updated (let's say on Commons) when some specific item is changed? There must be a way through SQL query but perhaps there is an easier way. That way we could verify that page like Creator:Achille Laugé is on the list to be updated when Q2823073 is modified. Jarekt added a comment. Some observations from the trenches (in case they help). So in case of Category:Creator templates with Wikidata link: item missing linkback: The pages in the category will not disappear for a very long time (next edit?) even if the condition that triggered addition to the category was fixed on Wikidata Purging creator page from the category removes the category from the page, but does not remove page from the category Null edit of the page is the ultimate fix. I always use a bot to "touch" each page in such category before working on it. A wikidata change triggers links updates as follows: ChangeHandler::handleChange calls WikiPageUpdater::scheduleRefreshLinks WikiPageUpdater::scheduleRefreshLinks schedules a RefreshLinksJob RefreshLinksJob::runForTitle() then... re-parses the page (hopefully - the interaction with the parser cache is somewhat complex. But since the page itself is getting re-rendered, this part seems to work) calls WikitextContent::getSecondaryDataUpdates, which returns a LinksUpdate calls LinksUpdate::doUpdate, which updates the database, including the categorylinks table My suspicion is that the problem is with the category page itself being cached in the CDN. Perhaps the HTMLCacheUpdateJob triggered by PageUpdater should have the recursive flag set. TASK DESCRIPTIONThe WikibaseQualityConstraints extension offers a wbcheckconstraints action in the MediaWiki action API, but the main user of that action is the extension itself: when a logged-in user visits a Wikibase entity page, we inject a ResourceLoader module which performs a request against that API and injects the results into the page, showing which statements of the entity violate quality constraints. We would like to know how many other users this API action has, so that we can plan how careful we need to be about making breaking changes to it – right now we adhere to the Wikidata Stable Interface Policy, but we’re not aware of any external users of the API that would actually be affected by the breaking changes. To this end, we added a header X-MediaWiki-Gadget to the API requests performed by our ResourceLoader module (T180780), so that we could compare the number of requests with that header (our own code) and without it (external users). We were under the impression that this header would be recorded for later use in analytics, but it turns out that only the special X-Analytics header is recorded, so the X-MediaWiki-Gadget header is useless right now. Possible options: Ditch X-MediaWiki-Gadget and use X-Analytics instead. I’m not sure how this would work… is X-Analytics even used for requests coming from clients, or only for responses going from the application server to the caching layer? Keep X-MediaWiki-Gadget and parse it inside the wbcheckconstraints API, incrementing statsd counters depending on the presence or absence of the header. This is a fairly simple solution, but also fairly custom? But the situation isn’t exactly common either (the normal case would be to just include the constraint reports in the page we send initially, without an API request), so perhaps that’s okay.
