Lucas_Werkmeister_WMDE added a comment. Okay, I5c98bb3dd9 gets rid of wikibase-beta, which simplifies things a bit. After that, I think we have two options: Introduce a flag whether the query service has the default prefixes built-in, and skip them if that flag is set to true. To stay on the safe side, it should probably default to false, so we’d also need a production config change to set it to true there. Just assume the query service has the default prefixes built-in, and no user will ever use a different SPARQL server. I would prefer the first option, but just today I realized that we’re currently acting more like the second option: for “has type” queries, we include query hints without even specifying the hint: prefixes, which is completely broken on non-BlazeGraph servers. Nikki added a comment. I skimmed over the list of ISO 639-1 codes and I think the only others which aren't supported are Ojibwe (oj) and Avestan (ae). Actually, even if you manually modify the form to set the language code to mis-x-nr, apparently WikibaseLexeme just overrides that with the language code from the item. If you fudge the CSS a bit, you can see the error: F27200468: Screenshot_2018-11-12 Create a new lexeme - Wikidata.png I figure we have two options here: Insist on only allowing known language codes, and change the form so that the condition for showing the “spelling variant” input is not just whether or not the spelling variant can be auto-inferred from the item, but also whether that language code is recognized by WikibaseLexemes. Allow all language codes which occur as Property: ISO 639-1 code statements, even if they’re not known to WikibaseLexeme. We could also add nr and lu as known languages now, but that just means someone else will eventually encounter this bug with other language codes. I guess for me the assumption that someone who answers the first part of the prompt "Input a SPARQL query" -- still might not know where to start, even if they are loosely familiar with SPARQL. Having a hint in the first screen that "ctrl+space can give you hints on where to start" would be super useful. I have found, in teaching sparql, its super useful to start from nothing -- so either having a blank filled out wrapper like SELECT ?item WHERE {?item } or having the ctrl+space hint which does that is the optimal thing for reminding someone who hasn't touched it in a while. Teaching from examples, in my experience, has only been good for demonstrating the power of Queries -- not for teaching folks how to actually use queries. And this interface is, in its very nature, assuming a bit of technical literacy -- so showing the hint early wouldn't hurt. When the query input is blank, you see the following placeholder: (Input a SPARQL query or choose a query example) If the user isn’t familiar with SPARQL, then telling them about the Ctrl+Space feature won’t be very useful, I imagine – they should instead start out with the examples, and get started trying to modify those, ideally using the query helper. Well, putting only the CodeMirror editor in fullscreen is intended as a feature (Ia45223f845), not a bug (note that it only happens when the editor is focused, otherwise F11 fullscreens the whole page, at least on my system). I quickly checked how some SPARQL servers parse SELECT (1. AS ?x) (DATATYPE(?x) AS ?dt) {}:
BlazeGraph: "1."^^xsd:decimal
Virtuoso: "1"^^xsd:decimal
Fuseki: parse error (expecting AS at .)
So whatever the spec says, implementations seem to do very different things.
