  Unless I'm missing something, @Anomie already did the bulk of the work for 
the first two (ApiQueryAllDeletedRevisions and ApiQueryDeletedRevisions) in 
commit 07842be3 
 
as part of T200568 , particularly by 
adding ApiQueryRevisionsBase::extractSlotInfo().
  
  ApiQueryDeletedrevs would require larger changes because, as Anomie noted in 
the commit message for 07842be3 
 
, "ApiQueryDeletedrevs wasn't touched,
  since it has been deprecated since 1.25 anyway." May I remove it? If not, may 
I no-op it?
  
  I'm posting a change for just the first two bullet points. If I can remove or 
no-op ApiQueryDeletedrevs, I'll do that as a separate change.

  Sorry to come late to this one. I can still see one problem here even if we 
find a way to tell the second request to look at the right revision id.
  
  The problem comes from the fact that UI is making two separate requests for 
what appears to be an atomic action (save all changed terms) to the editor. 
While that haven't caused any issues, and probably was decided to be done that 
way so that changing labels, descriptions and aliases get their own edit 
revisions separate from each other (for easier rollbacks and more atomic 
history on level of term edits), bubbling up this kind of separation up to the 
UI is problematic in this case.
  
  **Why is that a problem now?**
  Let's assume that second request (description in this case) is "fixed" and 
will look at the parent revision id instead of baserevid and it will detect the 
duplication correctly and fail.
  In that case, the label will be changed, but the description will not, which 
is not the right thing to do here from UX perspective. The editor is editing 
both, and press `save` expecting both to be saved or nothing to be saved if 
they did a mistake or didn't know they can't use same label and description. 
Their next step will be to go and rollback their edit to the label, given they 
actually noticed that it was saved after they get an error message (due to the 
failing second request)
  
  **How to solve UX issue?**
  If that part of editing does not work without javascript anyway, we can add 
some client-side validation. If not, then we have to do one request for saving 
(can we use wbeditentity endpoint instead for instance?).

  @JeroenDeDauw I'm testing WikbaseImport in the meanwhile .. it isn't really 
limited technically and one seem to be able to import all properties and 
entities in given ranges (from it's readme) .. though it seems to be: 1) quite 
slow, and 2) importing everything (incl. statements and linked entities) with 
no way to disable it (adding to the slowness) and 3) requires a separate 
wikibase instance to import from (a dependency that one might not want to have, 
esp. locally).
  
  This script generates entities with only terms attached to them (no 
statements yet, but could be added later with an option, say 
`--with-statements`). Those generated random entities can be used for stress 
tests, and maybe as fixtures for integration tests.

  Isn't this task to merge the entries into the single "Chinese" entry??
  
  Seems the merging is not quite suitable because there's some matters such as 
different names in different region such as the title of a movie, or a drama 
series.
  
  At least please leave those variants alone as before, such as "zh-CN", 
"zh-HK", "zh-MO", "zh-TW", "zh-SG", "zh-MY" etc.F28757190:

  I believe we run into a very similar issue in the tour we have in the 
#two-column-edit-conflict-merge 
 
extension, see T195713: Have an intro tour (No. 2) 
 as well as the patch

have been calculated to early, directly after the page finished loading. The 
moment the positions became relevant (i.e. the user clicked a button and the 
next popup was shown), all the other elements on the page could have been 
moved, i.e. when the user resized the browser window in the meantime, or a 
lazy-loading gadget made parts of the page reflow. I guess something similar 
might happen here. I know some quite relevant parts of the Wikibase UI (term 
box, collapsing references and qualifiers) only show up after the basic page 
loaded.
  
  Personally, I'm not able to invest time on this, unless I'm instructed to do 
so.

TASK DESCRIPTION
  As a high-volume editor on Wikidata, I want to ensure that my edits do not 
impair query service responsiveness.
  
  **Problem:**
  `maxlag` is a parameter that API users can specify to avoid overloading the 
wiki: if I send an API request with `maxlag=5`, and the database replicas are 
currently more than five seconds behind the master, then MediaWiki will 
immediately refuse the request. Afterwards, I’m supposed to wait for a bit 
before retrying the request. See

  Last year, we modified the API’s behavior so that this takes into account not 
just the replication lag, but also the dispatch lag (T194950: Include Wikibase 
dispatch lag in API "maxlag" enforcing 
) – if the database replicas are 
fine, but change dispatching to client wikis is more than 5 minutes behind, 
then requests with `maxlag=5` will still be rejected. (The 
`dispatchLagToMaxLagFactor` is configurable, 60 in production, so the threshold 
for dispatch lag is in minutes instead of seconds.)
  
  However, this does not take the query service lag into account – if updates 
on some or all of the WDQS servers start to lag behind, edits will continue at 
full speed as long as database replication and client dispatching are not 
affected. This can happen because query service lag depends not just on edit 
rate but also on the size of the entities edited (on each edit, the full entity 
is reloaded, even if only a small part of it was edited, so editing large items 
has a disproportionate impact) and the rate of external queries against the 
server.
  
  **BDD**
  GIVEN all the WDQS servers are lagged by more than one hour
  WHEN I send a `wbeditentity` API request
  AND I set the `maxlag` parameter to 5 seconds
  THEN I should get a `maxlag` error
  AND no edit should be made
  
  (the GIVEN part describes a rather extreme case; once the open questions 
below are qualified, it can perhaps be changed to a more realistic case)
  
  **Acceptance criteria:**
  
  - the effective max lag takes query service update lag into account
  
  **Open questions:**
  
  - What should the conversion factor be? (For dispatch lag, it’s 60 – five 
seconds of replication lag are equivalent to five minutes of dispatch lag.)
  - Lag between different servers can differ significantly. Do we use the mean 
lag? The median? The maximum? Something else? (For dispatch lag, we seem to use 
the median.)
  - `maxlag` affects all API requests, even ones that shouldn’t have any effect 
on query service lag, such as `action=wbgetentity` or 
`action=query=userinfo`. Should we try to limit the impact of this change, 
e. g. by only using query service lag on POST requests? (On the other hand, the 
same question should apply to dispatch lag and we don’t seem to limit the 
impact of that as far as I can tell.)

  Why migrating wb_terms is going to be a little more complicated?
  
  
  The migration of `wb_terms` into the new schema is going to be a little more 
complicated than usual. Due to the massive amount of data involved, our current 
master database nodes does not have enough disk space to sustain two different 
copies of the data to allow the usual process of:
  
  1. read old, write old
  2. read old, write both
  3. read new, write both
  4. read new, write new
  
  That above process is still possible if we first migrate only proeprty terms 
as they constitue a negligible percentage of the data (< 0.01%) thus have 
negligible overhead on disk-space usage (<20MB extra needed).
  
  For Item terms, the required extra disk space will be around 170GB which is 
too much to ask for on the current master node. So we go around migrating Item 
terms a little differently and do it as explained later in this section.
  
  What is the implication on queries that used to run against `wb_terms` during 
migration?
  

  
  During the migration, in order to continue accessing full range of data as 
needed in your tool, both schemas will have to be queried depending on some 
conditions.
  
  Those conditions will be different per entity type (property or item), and 
will be required in certain periods of the whole migration process.
  
  In which periods do I need to be running queries against which schemas?

  The following timeline shows the checkpoints of the migration in 
**production** environment and how they affect queries in general (dates are 
approximate atm but will be fixed 2 weeks prior to ):

  `maxlag` is a parameter that API users can specify to avoid overloading the 
wiki: if I send an API request with `maxlag=5`, and the database replicas are 
currently more than five seconds behind the master, then MediaWiki will 
immediately refuse the request. Afterwards, I’m supposed to wait for a bit 
before retrying the request. See

  Last year, we modified the API’s behavior so that this takes into account not 
just the replication lag, but also the dispatch lag (T194950: Include Wikibase 
dispatch lag in API "maxlag" enforcing 
) – if the database replicas are 
fine, but change dispatching to client wikis is more than 5 minutes behind, 
then requests with `maxlag=5` will still be rejected. (The 
`dispatchLagToMaxLagFactor` is configurable, 60 in production, so the threshold 
for dispatch lag should be in minutes instead of seconds if I’m not mistaken.) 
So if we can more or less easily get the (average? median? max?) query service 
update lag from within Wikibase, then it might make sense to include that lag 
in the calculation as well, with another configurable factor.
  
  As outlined in T209201#4738340 
, the implementation might 
be tricky, but I think this should in principle be doable, and would probably 
be a good idea.
