  The change in the Dates help page was made by Jarekt at 14:28, 17 July 2018  
UTC. The edit summary states
  
  > Switched text from what "should" be the first and last year of decade 
century or millennium, to what is currently interpreted by the wikibase software
  
  I don't know about this edit, but other editors have been known to claim the 
wikibase software works a certain way, when what they really investigated was 
merely the user interface.

  Since I commented above, https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Help:Dates has been 
edited and now says that "Any date in range 1801-1900 with precision 7 is 
interpreted as 19th century". Does this resolve the inconsistency?

  On the page https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:NewEntitySchema the terms
  of use are linked in English, but not in German. It's a red link that leads
  to [[Wikidata:Urheberrechte]], which is an empty page. The translation is
  at
  https://translatewiki.net/wiki/MediaWiki:Entityschema-newschema-copyright/de,
  Wikidata:Urheberrechte seems to be passed as a parameter. So I think I
  can't correct that mistake on the translatewiki.
  Other pages like https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:NewLexeme don't have
  that problem in German.

TASK DESCRIPTION
  Currently, we configure Camus jobs to import events based on which eventgate 
cluster instance they come through.  We do this because generally the 
throughput of each stream is relatively the same size for each eventgate 
cluster instance, which allows us to better tune the ingestion jobs.
  
  T269619: Create pipelines for late/spurious/failed events 
 will create one of the first set of 
event platform based streams that does not flow through eventgate.  We need to 
add a Camus job that knows how to import these kinda of events, probably by 
adding another stream config setting to indicate that they should be ingested 
by Camus.  This may cause us to re-think which stream config setting we are 
using to configure ingestion altogether.

  Unfortunately, even being explicit on the level of docker images won't make 
it easer. And the reason for that is the source of the content (the flink 
tar.gz file)  will still not be under Search's control (correct me if I am 
wrong, I might have misunderstood something) but instead on the flink project's 
servers. What this will mean is that the creation of the base image will 
succeed only for a short period of time after bumping the version of flink, 
since the flink project, per my undestanding, removes old versions from their 
servers.
  
  However that is not the only time we build images. We  semi-regularly have to 
rebuild the entire tree of docker images for some reason, the most usual ones 
being security updates in the base images, some misconfiguration or some newer 
features being added to our image building toolkit. What that means is that on 
the next shellshock/heartbleed/younameit the rebuild breaks. Then, SRE comes 
knocking on Search's door,  asking for a bump the version of flink in that 
container cause we need to rebuild it. Now, you will obviously point out that 
Search will probably be relying on some version of the container they can still 
rely on the old one and upgrade on their own timeline. However, during that 
timeframe before the upgrade happens is:
  
  - SRE has an unbuildable image which it does not control and knows little 
about. So it does what comes naturally, which is complain.
  - Search is running an image that does not have the security upgrades.
  - SRE is pushing for having images without known security vulnerabilities.
  - Search is forced to alter plans and reprioritize upgrading the flink 
version cause SRE is complaining.
  
  So, a source of friction  between teams.
  
  All of this can be solved by just moving the source of the problem (the flink 
.tar.gz) somewhere that Search controls so they can guarantee that a) it's the 
version Search wants b) fetching it during the building phase will not fail. 
But if that happens, most of this discussion becomes moot and the layer that 
docker image would be is just a potential (depending on whether the layer is 
present or not on the build host) speedup during building (which we can do, but 
for the right reasons).
  
  Interestingly, the debian package approach discussed in T266495 
 does have the 2 attributes outlined 
above which is why it's preferable to me. It still relies on an SRE of course 
to upgrade it which is a minus, but it shares this minus with this proposal. 
Ideally we wouldn't even need that and any member of Search would be able to 
update it.

  The announcement is ready (OKed by WMF and WMDE people), I’ll send it on 
Monday (Feb 8th) stating that the significant change will be deployed on Feb 
10th and the breaking change on March 3rd. To make sure those dates are met 
even when there are train problems, I suggest we backport the Wikibase change 
on those days, so it’s available on both the old and the new train. (The 
backport would be before the new train reaches group1 anyways, so that any 
potential problems it causes are noticed early.)

TASK DESCRIPTION
  Several Wikibase JS projects (at least Data Bridge, Tainted References, 
Termbox) use JavaScript libraries that are not bundled with their build, but 
provided by ResourceLoader. In T259468 
, we set up tests that the versions 
of those libraries provided by ResourceLoader match the `package.json` version 
requirements, and in T271413  we 
extracted those tests into a standalone library. However, the configuration of 
those tests is still separate from the webpack configuration which actually 
makes those libraries external, as pointed out by @wiese in T271413#6790791 
. That was partially fixed 
for Data Bridge , but not yet for other 
projects; additionally, it would be nice to restructure the `package.json` a 
bit, so that the configuration is not primarily for `@wmde/lib-version-check` 
and the `vue.config.js` reads that config, but that the configuration is a more 
general “external libraries” configuration which is consumed by both 
`@wmde/lib-vesion-check` and `vue.config.js` (see an example `package.json` 
snippet in T271413#6790791 ).

  Well, I think there are also other issues? Specifically, the Tainted 
References `package.json` configures a `remoteVersion` for both `vue` and 
`vuex`, but its `vue.config.js` only marks `vue` as external – `vuex` would be 
done in T250267 . (This is, I 
suppose, exactly the kind of inconsistency that centralizing the config is 
meant to avoid.)
  
  But I’d say that kind of cleanup is beyond the skope of this task. I’ll 
create another one.

  3. **When** to run those changes: at **any time** (not blocked on a code 
change); column is not expected to overflow within a year
  4. If the schema change **is backwards compatible**: **yes**, no code change 
needed
  5. If the schema change **has been tested already** on some of the test/beta 
wikis: change was automatically deployed to Beta, without problems as far as I 
can tell (column is unsigned now, change dispatching still works)
  6. If it involves new columns or tables: no, so no labs replica changes are 
needed
  
  The affected table, `wb_changes_dispatch`, is expected to have less than 1000 
rows: one row per wiki.

TASK DESCRIPTION
  The Item and Property selectors currently make one API request per keystroke, 
no matter the typing speed. This sends too many unnecessary requests to the 
API, and can lead to strange behavior when an earlier request takes longer than 
the last.
  
  The method performing the requests triggered by the user input should be 
debounced, i.e. only make requests when user stops typing for a reasonable 
amount of time, some hundred millisecond usually.
  
  This appeared to be the main cause for the browser tests to be flaky in the 
recent browser testing experiment 
.
  
  This picture shows the requests made by the browser test. It enters one key 
every 10ms which is faster than humans type and definitely shouldn't trigger 
one req per keystroke.

  Data reload should start tomorrow (T267927 
) and should fix all the currently 
missed deletes. The underlying issue still has not been identified, but the new 
updater (T244590 ) does not have the 
same problem. Since it should be ready //soon//, it make sense to not invest 
more time in fixing the old updater. Side note: deletes are rare (132 in 2 
days), the risk of major data issues is low.
