  The docs are fixed, as is the code. The `origin` parameter should now work 
correctly.

  Ah, then I think that’s something slightly different – as far as I can tell 
from the mediawiki-config git history, we never disabled fine-grained usage 
tracking on Commons after it was enabled (but it was also only enabled together 
with all wikis, not before), but at some point we stopped injecting recent 
changes on Commons (T171027 ), and 
that is in fact still in effect (on `commonswiki` and `testcommonswiki`, 
specifically).

  I’m not sure what this task is asking for… fine-grained usage tracking (at 
least the meaning of the phrase that I’m aware of) was enabled on all wikis 
 in 
February 2018, and more recently we entirely removed this configuration from 
Wikibase 
 and 
from the production config (1

), 
unconditionally enabling it everywhere. Is there anything still missing that 
I’m not aware of, or can we just close this?

  If I understand correctly, this controls the `wikidatawiki_p.wb_changes` view 
in the Toolforge / Cloud VPS replicas (e.g. in Quarry). We don’t want to make 
`wb_changes` rows for deleted revisions public, so we join the `revision` and 
`archive` tables, and only make the `change_user_id` and `change_info` 
available if the corresponding revision wasn’t deleted in either of those 
tables. (We leave the entity ID public in that case, presumably because that’s 
also more or less public on Special:Log 
.)
  
  I’m not sure if this requires an index on `change_revision_id` in the 
`wikidatawiki.wb_changes` table in those replicas (the source of the 
`wikidata_p.wb_changes` view) – I feel like the most important thing would be 
that the `revision` and `archive` tables have an index for the join, whereas on 
`wb_changes` it might not be needed? But in any case, I’m pretty sure that we 
don’t need this index in production, because those views don’t directly operate 
on the production tables anyways.

much attention from researchers and practitioners since its launch in 2012. As 
it is collaboratively developed and maintained by a community of a great number 
of volunteer editors, understanding and predicting the departure dynamics of 
those editors are crucial but have not been studied extensively in previous 
works. In this paper, we investigate the synergistic effect of two different 
types of features: statistical and pattern-based ones with DeepFM as our 
classification model which has not been explored in a similar context and 
problem for predicting whether a Wikidata editor will stay or leave the 
platform. Our experimental results show that using the two sets of features 
with DeepFM provides the best performance regarding AUROC (0.9561) and F1 score 
(0.8843), and achieves substantial improvement compared to using either of the 
sets of features and over a wide range of baselines.

  Looking at the codebase I don't understand where this could happen without 
entering CirrusSearch (unless the `APIAfterExecute` hook is not called on 
`wbsearchentities` or a bug in the cirrus request logger).
  Assuming that cirrus was hit I think the problem comes from: 
https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/plugins/gitiles/mediawiki/extensions/WikibaseCirrusSearch/+/refs/heads/master/src/EntitySearchElastic.php#319,
 where in case of an error with the backend we silently ignore the error and 
return an empty array. While I'm not sure that this problem cannot be triggered 
by something else it seems that what EntitySearchElastic does can cause it on 
backend failures (elasticsearch failures, poolcounter rejections...). See 
T260276 .
  Fixing this would require changing (or adding a new interface) the contract 
that `EntitySearchHelper` offers. It does not give the option to let the caller 
know the status of the response assuming that the backend never fails.
  
  I see two options to improve the situation:
  
  1/ to fail with an exception: this would let API clients knows that something 
is not correct and varnish would not cache the output. Unfortunately it is hard 
to know how other internal clients would behave to this new exception.
  2/ Change the `EntitySearchHelper` contract and allow to pass a Status object 
instead of the raw  `TermSearchResult[]` array. This is possibly a long 
refactoring that I'm not sure is really worth the effort esp. if the failures 
are rare.
