I think that RFC gets it right that the signers identity is not bound directly to anything besides crypto, binding to more info can be done by indirection through a signature. How do you revoke a signature? By removing the snak that contains the signature. Then how do you counter replaying the signature? The revision ID in the signed text would mismatch the revision in which the signature was added. However, maybe we don't want to counter this. If someone vandalizes the item by removing the statement, or even just the signature, we want to be able to restore it, I suppose. If replaying signatures is not countered then cryptographically revocation is not working. If revocation is not allowed, then how will a signer correct errors? Or by revoking the key. What to do about all the other signatures that the signer wants to convey they think are still true? I didn't think about revoking individual signatures when I wrote this proposal... Maybe it would be possible to include a token in the signed text, and the signer could maintain a (signed) list if valued resp of revoked tokens in a well known location? Maybe the token is a URL that resolves to a (signed) "valid" or "invalid" response? How do other systems solve this? GPG certifications (what is used to sign someones key) can be revoked. Synchronization is done through keyservers, though I don't know how far the weaknesses in that weakens the rest of all this. Do you? JanZerebecki added a comment. Interesting, maybe this can lead to a distributed truthy bubble (see [:w:en:Filter bubble]), where the user can chose instead of someone else. We might want to get #MediaWiki-extensions-WikibaseQualityExternalValidation done first. Should really any user be able to sign statements? I think it would be good to define a new user group which holds the right to do this. In this way the community would be able to decide which institutions are reliable / matching our scope. Why not curate a list of reliable/matching signing identities instead? The useful crypto in the browser part can be solved in the same way Debian or Tor solve software distribution. The major browsers are working on parts that are necessary for it, though AFAIK no browser is anywhere near Debian yet, much less standardized. JanZerebecki added a comment. Any variation in MediaWiki.jobqueue.inserts_actual.wikibase_addUsagesForPage.rate seems normal. So this can't be a sudden increase in pages rendered. The change in rates noticed in https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T136598#2340678 is only temporary afterwards it seems to be similar to before again. The rest of the db errors (not from wikibase_addUsagesForPage, e.g. https://logstash.wikimedia.org/#dashboard/temp/AVUIrz6-_LTxu7wlGH5_ ) seem to have a high percentage of them going to wikidatawiki. While https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T133144#515 has an idea what went wrong another idea would be that there is some bug that made dispatching not notice that it couldn't create jobs. From "job queues were not able to be written to" I assume the EnqueueJob strategy with two job queues was not implemented. And instead there was one job queue and trying to insert a job fails because the redis server was a slave in read only mode (i.e. job redis were switched while crons were not yet). If that is what happened this can be tested in a mediawiki vagrant instance (it comes with the job queue using redis). While moving away from dispatching via cron to a delayed job (https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T48643) might lessen the symptoms, it is probably worth it to track down this bug even if we switch to that. JanZerebecki added a comment. It seems if we say populateSitesTable is Wikimedia specific, we are saying that Wikibase is Wikimedia specific? AFAIK there is no way to set up a Wikibase installation with sitelinks without somehow specifying the information that may be in the sites table. How does the information get into the SiteMatrix? The list of wikis comes from dblists in mediawiki-config, which lists is a configuration of SiteMatrix. Where does their language and group comes from? Perhaps the db specific configuration in mediawiki-config? How does the extension access that part of the configuration, isn't it only accessible when in scope of one wiki and the only for that wiki? Does SiteMatrix depend on how certain details in mediawiki-config and the Mediawiki multi version stuff work? Maybe moving populateSitesTable.php into an extension named WikimediaSites will not improve the state of things. core might be the right location for an PHP API that can give out that information, with an index built at some point before the deployment is finished. Where should the code to build that index live? I don't know all the involved parts well enough nor do I have a useful overview. Perhaps a full list of sources of information and where they are needed will help. JanZerebecki added a comment. Something that breaks the build on master is a deployment blocker, even if the build for the wmf branch won't contain it. There are already 7 tasks in the current sprint with priority high. What should the priority of a deployment blocker be? I assume it should be higher than less urgent tasks. If we want to be able to use high for such things we need to normally have no task with high in our sprints.
