One reason for not having tooltips is/was, that tablets/phones can't display them on hover. (thanks to @JeroenDeDauw for telling me about this reasoning)

Thanks for reporting. If I understand it right, the reason is to save (vertical) screenspace.

Are there any examples where saving the space is particularly needed? (it is naturally still valid if there are none, it could just help designing/reviewing
