This still appears to be an issue and I think the issue lies in VisualEditor.
The toc appears in the response from the save API inside visualeditoredit.content
It's possible that either


VisualEditor's API is making an assumption about the table of contents being there and adding it itself
The VisualEditor response is not honoring the onOutputPageParserOutput hook which can make modifications to the ParserOutput.
WikidataPageBanner needs to use another hook provided by VisualEditor

EDIT DETAILSMobile readers ~~now see~~ previously saw a Wikidata description when searching the English Wikipedia (T152743). Concern (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Incidents#Hard_to_detect_mobile_vandalism) has been raised that it is hard for editors to know if this description has been vandalised (potentially introducing serious - libellous - errors); on desktop Wikipedia the wikidata descriptions can only be seen by manually clicking through to the Wikidata item.

One solution might be to show the Wikidata description at the top of articles, under the title, to logged in editors, with an Edit button to quickly take them to Wikidata to fix any errors (which was explained in more detail in T141230). EDIT DETAILS...One solution might be to show the Wikidata description at the top of articles, under the title, to logged in editors, with an Edit button to quickly take them to Wikidata to fix any errors (which was explained in more detail in T141230). Another would be to show relevant Wikidata edits in the Watchlist. I notice I have a "Wikidata" checkbox there, but editing a Wikidata description doesn't show up on the watchlist even if it's checked.

My React prototype has server side rendering for anonymous users (view-source:https://nomad.wmflabs.org/wiki/San%20Francisco) - logged in users just use JS, so this is not a problem and there would be no need to write HTML twice as @Jan_Dittrich points out. @TheDJ practically speaking this could be achieved by setting up a REST endpoint that returns HTML e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/api/rest_v1/page/html/San_Francisco - only that HTML would include script/style tags (possibly to ResourceLoader urls or static urls). For JS rendering you could either use the same endpoint or a json version e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/api/rest_v1/page/json/San_Francisco

@Magnus that is indeed awesome and demonstrates how easy this can be. Add the Wikidata shell around that and you won't know the difference about what you're using - but I imagine it can be a lot snappier. I'm looking forward to perusing the code. The benefit of using JS only is it lends itself better to service workers - so offline experiences and offline editing are real possibilities.

It would be really interesting in seeing Wikidata built with Vue.js - if you were to take that approach would you build something on top of RESTBase or would you build on top of MediaWiki's stack (and replicate functionality where needed?) I'm quite interested in approaches with the former.. particularly given the rise of progressive web apps and interest in many of the applications that @Magnus has built. In case you were not aware I replicated the entirety of MobileFrontend in a React app and it wasn't too difficult and in many ways it was liberating - https://trending.wmflabs.org/.

One of the common things I hear about us not adopting frameworks is that we'll make the wrong decision and migrating is hard, but the good thing about common frameworks is that usually someone has already experienced migrating from one to another and documented their experience (e.g. Vue.js to React.js).

In case I wasn't clear before... the extension is currently programmed to always show breadcrumbs below the title.
The variable Geocrumbs uses has the name subtitle - which is why the breadcrumbs are appearing below the title/banner. (Note the similar https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Reading/Web for example)

In WikidataPageBanner the title is within the banner...

This is due to a workaround in https://fr.wikivoyage.org/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Common.css for bug T113642

Hi @Andyrom75 I tried to replicate this on browserstack.com IE11 Windows 10 but couldn't - page banner shows fine for me. I can't see what's wrong. Can you clarify? 
Does the issue happen when you are logged out?
Which Windows version are you using?

The diff is shown where-ever the title is (which usually happens to be the top of the page and the top of the article)

However, on this diff page
"Differenze tra le versioni di "Utente:Pietro Di Fontana" is considered the title of the page and the actual title of the page is not present... hence turning on the banners will show it at the top of the page!

Hi @divadsn - to be more specific any images where the width of the image is less than 1.5 * height.
width:200px, height: 200px would not be allowed (200 < 1.5 * 200)
This should only apply to images generated automatically.
{{PAGEBANNER:SmallImage}} would still work as the editor has specifically overriden the default.

It's trivial to show the banner again but I'm concerned that showing it at the top of the diff page will make it harder for patrollers to patrol given it will hide the rest of the diff on a small resolution. Given the opposite opinion it would be extremely helpful if this could be brought up on the travellers pub so we can work out if this is really an issue. @Sumit all conversations are archived but we'd have to search and find the conversation. I think the issue will be the fact that usually the banner takes over the title of the page and in this case it would not - it would render under the diff. It might be tricky to implement. Another possible concern is that the banner takes up a lot of space and for most diff previews will get in the way of the rest of the preview.

Will watch out for a patch from you :)
Also it would be great to recruit some other volunteers to work on this extension. Yup but the first task was resolved after enabling all on all wikis except top 6. I must confess I was under the understanding during sprint kick off we decided to scrap that and the cards were going to be updated. Obviously I misunderstood that conversation and have been going on autopilot ever since.
