Note, one option you have is you could set up a temporary gadget or Wikibase
module for Wikidata provided you are happy maintaining that.

The community will be still able to modify the icons. I'm not suggesting

While testing this I also note that table of contents shows up in previews of
skins that don't want it. I am going to suggest a more generic hook that allows
extensions to explicitly disable the table of contents

Option 3 sounds great @karapayneWMDE I think we can continue supporting this
a little longer. How important is modern Vector skin on wikidata.org ? How many
users are using it? (Note the autocomplete code will still be used on the
normal Vector skin for now)

Hi @karapayneWMDE later today, I'm making a config change which will mean
Wikidata is the only Wikimedia project that does not use the Vue search.
I think the timeline is dependent on you.
Ideally, I would like to drop support for the old search now, which

The skinStyle was not applying, as it seems skins can't register skinStyles
if the skinStyle is defined inside the extension it's trying

Has any progress been made with this API?
We (the web team) will be beginning the process for porting the mobile site
to this component and without this API we will need to consider one of two
options, neither of which is great:
1. disabling
