TASK DESCRIPTION **Feature summary** (what you would like to be able to do and where): On Wikidata, sitelinks to Wikifunctions currently just display the ZID. It would be much nicer and more useful if it would be showing the label in the interface language, when available, or a fallback. **Use case(s)** (list the steps that you performed to discover that problem, and describe the actual underlying problem which you want to solve. Do not describe only a solution): As a reader, I want to know what function is being linked on Wikidata without having to click on it and open the page. As a contributor, I want to understand if the sitelink is correct, without having to click on it and open the page. **Benefits** (why should this be implemented?): Makes it easier for the user to understand and less intimidating because fewer funny IDs in the interface. TASK DESCRIPTION **Project Name:** annotation **Wikitech Usernames of requestors:** DVrandecic (will add more later) **Purpose:** to run a MediaWiki instance that will be used to annotate text and text fragments with identifiers of Lexemes, Senses, and Forms from Wikidata **Brief description:** Each page on the wiki is supposed to contain a sentence, with each lexeme being annotated accordingly. This aims to be useful in several ways: 1) make the coverage of lexicographic data in Wikidata visible and highlight gaps, 2) as training data for automatic annotation systems (this might be too ambitious with the prototype planned here), 3) at least as a prototype that might inspire another system with the goal to provide 2) All that needs to run here would be a MediaWiki instance. A medium sized VPS project should be sufficient for now. I would be thrilled if we outgrow that. **How soon you are hoping this can be fulfilled:** This month (January 2021). I checked in my own PhD thesis, as I had a short section on that, and ten years ago, when I wrote this, basically everything on the Linked Open Data Web was http: http://simia.net/download/ontology_evaluation.pdf , p.67 Fortunately, that has changed. More background can be found here: https://wiki.dnb.de/display/DINIAGKIM/HTTP+vs.+HTTPS+in+resource+identification from the SWiB18 discussion on the topic. In my opinion, I would suggest to use the chance and since we are building a new resource here, to use https from the start. It was a mistake that we didn't do that for Wikidata, which was due to the fact that Wikipedia only started offering https in 2011, and switched to it only in 2015. We are not in that situation today, and can make the right decision. I would love for Wikidata to switch, but that's a different task. So my recommendation is - which is not informed at all by possible technical constraints - to use https wherever possible, and in particular for a any new namespaces such as introduced for WCQS and the Commons data dumps to use https from the start, even though this means mixing some http and https identifiers. I would not care about consistency with the Wikidata namespaces. As said, i consider that, retroactively, a mistake, and would love to change it.
