Is the sense the more appropriate level? - Could the feature be implemented as just a Wikidata property that would link the lexeme/sense? Fnielsen added a comment. @AGutman-WMF Spelling variants in Ordregister are each associated with a specific identifier. If the spelling variants are just a representation, then it is not possible to associate the identifier with the specific representation (unless a new property is proposed). On the other hand if the spelling variant is associated with a separate form then the Wikidata property can be used for the Ordregister spelling variant identifier. For instance, https://ordregister.dk/id/COR.53473/ corresponding to https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Lexeme:L250372 lumps 6 different forms together in the lexeme. And each as a separate COR identifier. In authoritative works https://ordnet.dk/ddo/ordbog?query=m%C3%B8rkel%C3%A6gge=Den+Danske+Ordbog , https://dsn.dk/ordbog/ro/moerkelaegge/ and https://ordregister.dk/ they are regarded as one lexeme. The Ordregister has one identifier for the lexeme and we have different Ordregister form identifiers for each of the variants. The hyphenation is different between the variant. I am taking the liberty to polute the thread with a reference to "MillenniumDB: A Persistent, Open-Source, Graph Database" https://arxiv.org/pdf/2111.01540.pdf from November 2021. Millennium may have some serious limitations in terms of requirements that can be setup, but interestingly they write "However, MillenniumDB was designed with the complete version of Wikidata – including qualifiers, references, etc. – in mind." and their benchmarks seems strong. They compare against Blazegraph, Jena, Virtuoso and Neo4J. I get 200 all over from WDQS when i do shift+left mouse on the refresh button, while 200 and some 304 with a left mouse button on the refresh button. "percentage, number of WDQS queries per month that involve scholarly articles (including authors and publications)" It is unclear for us Scholia people how much load we are putting on WDQS. We have a tendency to do multiple SPARQL queries on each page and that might not be a problem or it might be a very bad thing. I recall a statistics on the WDQS query that it was mostly Magnus Manske tools that put load on WDQS, - but I might remember it wrongly. In Scholia, we now add a "# tool: scholia" on top of most of our queries. I am not aware of other tools doing that. Perhaps it was an idea to do that, so that Wikimedia Foundation people could more easily do statistics wrt. the tools. (perhaps there should not be a space between "#" and "tool". Going back to the quantifiable: "percentage, number of scientific papers that are connected to non-scientific paper items in WD (not including authors and publications)" We would hope that every scientific paper has a topic annotation with one or more of the Wikidata items - either non-scientific paper items or - in rare instances - scientific paper items. It may sometimes be difficult to find out what is a topic and what is a scientific articles, but once a few scientific articles about the topic has been annotated with the "main topic" property then the topic usually shows up on the top. The graph shows a bit of plateauing recently for publications, while there is a recent increase in citations. I would think that James Hare is doing the citations? As far as I remember, the citations have been mentioned as a issue of concern with respect to Wikidata data size. They are probably a good deal of the number of triples. Some of the statistics that is wanted are listed on Scholia, currently on the frontpage: https://scholia.toolforge.org/ "percentage, number of Wikidata entities that are scholarly article": 37.246.721Scholarly articles, so 37/97 ~ 40% are scholarly articles. "percentage, number of WDQS queries per month that involve scholarly article (including authors and publication)" For Scholia, we have recently turned a number of queries into more templated queries and now automatically add "# tool: scholia" as a comment to the queries, so it should be possible for Wikimedia employees to count the number of Scholia queries (perhaps that was possible before by the referer field?). I have had the impression that Scholia's queries were a low number compared to Magnus Manske's tools. "percentage, number of scientific papers that are connected to non-scientific paper items in WD" Quite a lot of scholarly papers are connected to a journal item, to one or more topic items, to a language item, some to a notable author, that is in Wikipedia (so we need item in Wikidata). Currently, according to the statistics on Scholia there are 14.211.431 topic links. Works may have multiple links so perhaps only <10.000.000 works have one or more topics, - we should target for most works to have a topic, so I suspect this would grow. In the wordnet world, a sense is the intermediate step between a lexeme and a concept/synset, see Ontolex specification where the sense is called LexicalSense https://www.w3.org/2016/05/ontolex/ In DanNet, "bil" is word-11004644 which has a sense wordsense-21007098 that is then tied to synset-1507 which is the concept of car. https://tools.wmflabs.org/ordia/L36385-S1 shows the synonyms for the sense of "bil", e.g., "øse" and "dytbil", each which can be tied to language style. In the world of wordnet and Ontolex, the gloss, however, is on the synset/concept level rather than the sense level. Fnielsen added a comment. I suppose this issue was inspired by the discussion after Lydia's talk at WikidataCon 2019: https://media.ccc.de/v/wikidatacon2019-2-wikidata_and_languages#t=2788 . I have now gone back to see how I actually handle there situations for Danish. It is not possible to add two "Spelling variant"s with the same language code, e.g., "da". I get "It is not possible to enter multiple representations with the same spelling variant." For the Danish word "aften" https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Lexeme:L34765 I see that I have put in two forms like the English octopus case above for the case with variants with the same grammatical features. In Danish dictionaries, the variants can be indicated with parentheses, e.g., "aft(e)ner", "aft(e)nerne", see https://dsn.dk/?retskriv=aften I now see that the different variants need different property values. Hyphenation might be different and pronounciation may (perhaps controversially) be different: afnen aft‧nen, aftenen af‧ten‧en and aftnen "Afd$n@n (SAMPA), aftenen "Af$d@$n@n. "Describe in" and "Attested in" could be other properties where the property values should be different. So such Danish variants cannot/should not(!?) be represented by what Wikibase regards as "Spelling variant"s. And so I guess that the Wikibase structure is ok'ish for Danish (and the Norwegian "parameter" example) with the help of the octopus trick. Perhaps a property could be created that links forms that a spelling variants, e.g., the different forms of parameter, octopus and aften. --- A slightly different issue arises for the words mor/moder and far/fader (mother and father in Danish). Here mor and moder should probably be regarded as two separate lexemes, - one (mor) that is derived as a short form of the other (moder). The query counts that there are, e.g., 7 Danish lexemes of 'led' from what Ordia shows are 9 different forms. In Wiktionary, I suppose we would like to have all 9 forms shown - either fully or just as a redirect. The 9 forms can be fetched from 7 different Wikidata lexeme pages. That is just for one language. I have a problem with formulating a language-agnostic query that doesn't timeout in WDQS. It does not seem to be able to handle STR and the first column now. But removing STR from BIND(STR(YEAR(?date)) AS ?year) does not help. TASK DESCRIPTION
I have used action=wbsearchentities with type=lexeme in the Ordia Toolforge
tool. It has worked but now it no longer works.
Here is a short Python program that reproduces the problem.

Result: Prints False. And a message with "Our servers are currently under
maintenance or experiencing a technical problem." and status code 500.
Expect: Prints True
Disabling "'type': 'lexeme'," yields a non-error result, - but does not
search lexemes
I do not recall hearing of any changes in the API, and the documentation at
https://www.wikidata.org/w/api.php?action=help=wbsearchentities is
still indicating type=lexeme should work.
The below code does not return an error, but does not return a result (it
should return L45438).
