Thanks for this Andy !

Yeah, having inaccurate data can hurt (the deadline is now), but having no
data filled (unused properties) doesn't seem to hurt anyone, its just a
disappointment typically :-)

Great page there that I did not know existed, so thanks again Andy.

The principles of en.Wikipedia's "no deadline" essay seem to apply:

Andra,

Great Point ! Yes, if that is the general mantra...then it would be wise
to put that kind of tone on that Wiki page about properties.

Thanks !

 Hi Thad,

properties can be proposed for deletion and, actually, get deleted.

However, when a property is approved there is usually a reasonable
discussion showing the potential of its application. If it can be applied
to multiple items it does not get approved.

Why is there a need to delete them? Properties went through a proposal
cycle and I would be very cautious with deleting those properties since
Wikidata properties can be used outside the Wikidata ecosystem. Especially
since Wikidata is now part of the LOD.

I would say if the property has been unused for some time, nominate it for
deletion and see whether there is consensus the property is not needed. I
do not think there are any particular criteria.

Curious,

I notice the listing of "Properties awaiting widespread use", possibly to
try to encourage usage, and I applaud that...but if usage never seems to
happen for whatever reason...

Do unused properties ever get deprecated after a really long time ? What
is that criteria to deprecate them ?

If that is known... it would be nice to have that mentioned in a section
here: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Help:Properties

Thanks in advance !
