[WikiEducator] Re: Horticulture developments
Congratulations Leigh Randy, This is a tribute to Otago Poly's leadership in this area. Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is the gentle giant of distance education with more than a million distance education students! My colleague and friend -- Dr Pankaj Khare (User:Pankaj) is a WE Ambassador of note -- and he heads up the international office at IGNOU. Otago's experiences will assist IGNOU in their advocacy work in moving towards open authoring models. At the same time our respective projects will benefit tremendously from IGNOU's experience in the design and development of distance education materials. Classic win - win! [WikiEducator] Re: Horticulture developments
Hi Leigh Just tested the PDF is very nice, but it dropped the attribution to the CC BY image ... There are still a couple of bugs -- this is the beta release. I can set up a workaround so that we use a text based attribution rather than the images. At the moment - images within an image caption don't parse well. As for adding pedagogical templates... this is something I am a bit nervous about as it is unique wiki text that could make it just that little bit more difficult for a newbie to edit, and difficult to reuse the resources in other mediawikis.. that said, I'd be keen to see what you can do.. do you have one in mind Wayne? This time of year is good as the Wikis are not being used to much... I hear what you're saying about templates for Newbies. I'm looking at this from the perspective of the learner in producing the best learning experience we can from WE content. {{Objectives|These are my objectives}} shouldn't be too hard for folk to learn -- and we've been pretty successful in teaching Newbies at our face-to-face workshops to use the pedagogical templates. However, to avoid disrupting the flow -- I might just make a duplicate page and play around a little as an experiment. Nope don't have a particular page in mind. I'll just choose one. This may have to wait till after the winter holiday break -- I need some time out! Hi Leigh, Seems like some pretty good collaboration going on here - why don't you ring up your communications department and tell them that you've got a neat story to tell the community, and the alumni, potential donors... The PR folks are always looking for great stories, and this is one! Make people feel good about what they feel good about! ...but you knew that! - Randy Randy Fisher - aka WikiRandy for WikiEducator iCentro Networks Vancouver, BC +1 604.684.2275 www.icentronetworks.com www.hirerandy.com Skype / Gmail / Yahoo: wikirandy - Original Message From: Leigh Blackall [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: wikieducator@googlegroups.com Sent: Wednesday, December 19, 2007 5:05:56 PM Subject: [WikiEducator] Re: Horticulture developments yes, much better! And the font size you have set means I can happily print it as 2 pages per sheet, double sided with it still being highly readable. In the image attribution you have: IMAGE NAME Image courtesy of NAME sampled CC BY images Licensed under VV-BY from Flickr I reckon the attribution would read better as: NAME of IMAGE. Courtesy of Flickr user: FLICKRUSERNAME using the CC BY license That way I think it is clearer that the image was provided by a person and not Flickr As for a course to apply the pedagogical templates to. I asked the lecturer involved in Horticulture and she was very amiable to the idea that you would try and jaz it up. Keep in mind that she is still working on activity sheets :) would be wonderful to see what you can do with it... and if you succeeded in making it more attractive and functional, it would help in convincing that department to release more resources.
