We have that list going, believe me!I think a lot of the problems were
insurmountable no matter how hard we and
the recipients tried because of the Immigration policies. We have at least
10 per my count that were denied.

10% is a large percentage to deny. I am starting to think that in the
future a criteria for Wikimania selection should be the ease of obtaining
visas, if that isn't already a consideration. Ironically, I think one of
the reasons the UK was chosen to host was the supposed ease of obtaining
visas
Out of curiosity, do we have data from previous years about what percentage
of visa applications were denied?

The present UK government is not really interested in promoting
multi-culturalism, rather it has attached a higher priority to being
paranoid about immigration, an attitude fuelled by the tabloid press. It is

Thanks Chris. To be clear, I did not mean to imply that the position of

All are good points. However, from my point of view, the host chapter or
organization ought to communicate with their local embassy of an upcoming
conference in their country, what it means and areas attendees are expected
from.
I personally think no embassy will 'intentionally' sabotage someone
I notice that we don't have any sessions at the Hackathon about
Chapters/Thematic orgs/Usergroups/informal local groups.
I wonder if it might make sense to have something during the Hackathon or
one of the lunchtimes to discuss ways to improve communication and
cooperation among the many
Pharos I would very much be looking forward to something like this. I was
very dissapointed that there seemed to be little formal interchapter
dialogue going on at this conference.
My preference would be for a lunch time meeting if others would be up for
it.

Hi Pharos,
Some cooperation among thematic orgs happens on Wikimedia-l and through
Wikimedians who are members or supporters of multiple thematic orgs.
Discussion about how to encourage more cooperation would be good.
I was hoping to encourage some of this cooperation and sharing of ideas
Maybe during Thursday or Friday lunch?
Thanks,
Richard

Hi, everyone!
I'm planning on seeing Les Misérables tonight, and thought I'd check if
anyone else wanted to join. It begins at 1930 at the Queen's Theatre, the
nearest Tube stations are Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square.
If you'd like to join, send me an email or text me at +4797767510. :-)
Just very practically: how long is it, and what does it cost?
Best,
Lodewijk

Does anybody at Wikimania use Lycamobile? I've got a £20 top-up voucher
which my family left behind when they visited the UK last year. It's still
valid. Reply to me off-list if you want it.
