Re: [Wikimedia-l] Wikimedia Summit 2019: Registration now open

2018-11-09 Thread Paulo Santos Perneta
Hello Pine,

Sorry, I didn't wanted to mess up this thread, it was just a quick followup
correcting that we may be able to carry on those events despite the
suspension, but indeed it's not related to the Summit anymore (and thinking
better, possibly of very limited interest for the people here in the list,
unless they have some interest on Russian culture and Portugal - in that
case they're very welcome to join this project, just contact me in
private). The reply to WikimediaAnnounce-l was kind of automatic, I really
had no idea what to do with it, next time I'll remove that. Thanks for the
heads up.

2018-11-09 Thread Pine W
Hi Paulo,

As much as I am concerned about the situation between WMPT and AffCom, and
as much as I would like to see more transparency from AffCom, I would like
to request that those subjects be kept separate from this thread which is
primarily about a conference. Also, WikimediaAnnounce-l is for
announcements, and I think that discussion of the situation between WMPT
and AffCom is generally appropriate for Wikimedia-l but not
WikimediaAnnounce-l.

If you would like to discuss the WMPT and AffCom situation further then I
request that you start a separate thread on Wikimedia-l or resume writing
in a previous Wikimedia-l thread that was focused on that topic.

Thank you,

Pine

[Wikimedia-l] Wikimedia Summit 2019 – Office Hours

2018-11-09 Thread Cornelius Kibelka
Dear Wikimedians,

We have received feedback that it might be harder this year to select the
one delegate of your affiliate to attend the Wikimedia Summit. Also beyond
the selection, questions arose and arise regularly around the purpose and
objectives of the Wikimedia Summit as well as the connection to the
Movement strategy process.

As an initiative to provide clarity and support from the the Organizing
team and the Movement Strategy Core Team, I’m hosting two office hours via
Google Hangout. To cover more time zones and availabilities, there will be
two calls (but both with the same content, no need to attend both):

   -

Thursday, November 15, 8:00 [8 AM] UTC – link to hangout:
   https://meet.google.com/uzh-chey-rsf
   -

Sunday, November 18, 18:00 [6 PM] UTC – link to hangout:
   https://meet.google.com/xaw-zecx-fam

If you are unavailable at these proposed time slots, we can either arrange
a call separately or you can follow up via email.

As always, please let us know your concerns and questions.

Best regards

Cornelius
for the Wikimedia Summit organizing team

Re: [Wikimedia-l] Wikimedia Summit 2019: Registration now open

2018-11-09 Thread Paulo Santos Perneta
(Just a quick followup on the important GLAM and FOSS events that were
risking being cancelled here in Portugal due to complete lack of WMF
support: While looking to all our options, I remember we had already
planned a meeting with the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Lisbon
about the Wikipedia Asia Month and the divulgation of the Russian culture
here in Portugal, including Madeira Island, where we have a strong relation
since the times of the czars until today, mainly covering arts and tourism.
I've contacted the Embassy, which showed interest on this project, so I've
just added those two events to the project we already add, to try to save
them adjusting them to the scope of the Russian culture, and I expect we
could meet in the next few days, hopefully still in time to save the events
