still see it in use on nlwiki:

This looks nice but it is per-wiki. I would perhaps look for -- in addition,
not to replace -- a more features-centric system, e.g. feedback from all
languages of all wikis. When talking to a contributor today, I realised that
he thinks his feedback about Flow wasn't acknowledged. Likely he sent it to
wrong place due to lack of a standard centralized system.

Re: [Wikimedia-l] Qrpedia domain transfer

2013-12-21 Thread Jon Davies
Hi Nathan,

Re Q1 our legal advice was to set up a separate company in case anyone came
after QRcodes in some litigious fashion. This keeps it at arms length.

Q2 I am the only person associated with it at the moment - the AGM was a
rather solitary affair - but we need to add another director not least in
case I go under a bus.

Q3. There will be an agreement, it is being drafted.

Come into the office for a coffee and we could chat about it in more detail.

Thanks Katherine, I just have a couple of questions if you have a moment...

 1) Why did WMUK choose to incorporate a new company to host the qrpedia IP?
 2) Who are the officers / trustees of Cultural Outreach Ltd and how are
 they chosen?
 3) Are there already or will there need to be cross agreements between WMF
and other Wikimedia entities and Cultural Outreach Ltd?

 Thanks,
 Nathan

Re: [Wikimedia-l] Qrpedia domain transfer

2013-12-21 Thread Michael Maggs
Crossed wires I think.

Jon was probably referring to the internal agreement between WMUK and its
subsidiary Cultural Outreach whereby WMUK will pay the domain name renewal
fees. That simply allows us to maintain a non trading status for Cultural
Outreach which keeps legal fees to a minimum.

QRpedia is and will remain free for use by anyone, without any need for an
agreement or approval from WMUK.

This seems to imply that QRpedia will no longer be freely and openly
available for anyone to use, as it has been from inception. I hope
that's not the case, but would be grateful for assurances.

Totally. In fact I think this string demonstrates a little of why this has
taken two years one month and 21 days! But with good faith we got there!!!

Re: [Wikimedia-l] The Old Wikipedia logo is still widely used - what can we do?

2013-12-21 Thread Emilio J . Rodríguez-Posada
Put a big red notice in the old images page descriptions saying that the
logo is deprecated and that the new logo is available in [link to the new
version]. So when people click on them from Google, they will read it.

2013/12/20 Amir E. Aharoni amir.ahar...@mail.huji.ac.il

 Hallo.

The old version of the puzzle globe Wikipedia logo was retired in 2010.
It had wrongly painted letters in several languages as well as some
graphical imperfections. The current logo has correct letters and improved
 vector graphics quality.

Despite the replacement having taken place almost four years ago, I still
see the old logo in news stories about Wikipedia in many languages every
few days. I find it very frustrating.

One likely reason for this is that Google images search shows mostly images
of the old logo when queried for wikipedia logo.

Can we do anything about it? My SEO skills are about non-existent. A
Facebook friend suggested changing the title of the Commons file
 File:Wikipedia-logo.png to File:Wikipedia-logo-v1.png and
 File:Wikipedia-logo-v2.svg to File:Wikipedia_logo.svg. This sounds
reasonable, though it may have considerable technical implications.

Is there anything else we can do?
