[Wikimedia-l] MediaWiki User Survey

2015-07-18 Thread Chris Koerner
Greetings,

In an effort to answer the question, “Who is using MediaWiki?” the MediaWiki
Stakeholder’s Group
 organized
a survey.

We want to hear from existing MediaWiki users and ask that you complete
this short survey about your use of MediaWiki. The results of the survey
will help by providing input that should influence the future development
of MediaWiki. We also hope to grow the community of MediaWiki Users and
improve involvement.

The preliminary results of this survey was anonymized shared with the
public at the MediaWiki Stakeholder's session at Wikimania 2015

and
will be posted to MediaWiki.org at a later date
. An anonymized
data set will be available for download as well. This survey is separated
into two parts and should take about 10 minutes to complete.

To include as many MediaWiki users as possible, please help us spread this
survey far and wide. The survey will close on *Friday, July 31st*.

*Start the MediaWiki User Survey *

*Alternate link*

Sincerely,
Chris Koerner and other members of the MediaWiki Stakeholder's Group

[Wikimedia-l] Recognition of Wikimedia Community UG Belarus

2015-07-18 Thread Carlos M. Colina

Dear all,

It is an honour and a pleasure to announce on behalf of the Affiliations
Committee the recognition [1] of the newest Wikimedia User Group:
Wikimedia Community User Group Belarus. Among their objectives are to
represent both Belarusian Wikipedias (classical and academic) in
international relations; to widen media presence and public awareness
about Belarusian Wikipedias' community activities; and to make
collaborative projects with other interest groups, social initiatives,
NGOs and local communities in Belarus and abroad.

Please join us in welcoming a new member of the family! :-)

[Wikimedia-l] Recognition of Iranian Wikimedians UG

2015-07-18 Thread Carlos M. Colina

Dear all,

I'm pleased to announcce the recognition [1] of a new member of the
family of Wikimedia affilates, the Iranian Wikimedians User Group. Among
their main interests are encouraging the use of Wikimedia resources in
education (at cultural centres, associations and Universities), outreach
work and the use of social media to tell people about Wikipedia and its
sister projects; edit-a-thons and participation in different cultural
events, photo trips and upload-a-thons to teach users how to upload
images to Commons.

Welcome!!

Re: [Wikimedia-l] Innovation

2015-07-18 Thread Gerard Meijssen
Hoi,
Collecting hundred ideas is indeed easy. I am sure that when I look back
in my 3000+ blog posts[1] I will find hundreds of ideas easily. It is not
the numbers that important, it is about the relevance of the ideas, some of
mine are more relevant and others less so.

Arguments that are relevant are:

   - technical difficulty
   - impact on our community
   - impact on the amount of work it generates
   - impact on the ability to write new articles
   - impact on the ability to involve new editors
   - ability to generate meaningful statistics

The idea I proposed in this thread is likely to score really high except on
the first argument.

Would you for argument's sake walk through this idea with me and see your
process in action. The purpose would be to shine some light in the black
box. A fringe benefit could be to get a ball rolling.
Thanks,
  GerardM
