[Wikimedia-l] GLAMWiki Conference 2018: Extension of Content Submission Deadline Till May 7th.

2018-04-30 Thread Shani Evenstein
Dear all,

*Deadline extension*
The program committee is looking to create a diverse GLAM conference that
truly serves the global community. To achieve this goal, we would like to
accept submissions not only from established GLAM projects and communities,
but also from emerging communities / developing countries / groups just
starting out their GLAM endeavors.

Looking at the submissions so far
,
we have decided to extend the content submission
 deadline *till next
Monday, May 7th, at midnight *(wherever you are in the world). We are
hoping this extension will encourage more submission from developing
countries, emerging community and allow for a more diverse program.

*Tips*
In the past week I've been asked repeatedly if I have tips for good
submissions. The best tip I can offer is -- no matter if your GLAM
partnership / project is well established or you are just starting out,
make sure your submissions offers an added value beyond "this is what we
did in our project", i.e. focus on what you leaned and how it could be of
use by others in the GLAM community.

GLAM on,
Shani.

Re: [Wikimedia-l] [Wikitech-l] Τι σας κάνει ευτυχισμένη αυτήν την εβδομάδα? / What's making you happy this week? (Week of 22 April 2018)

2018-04-30 Thread Pine W
Thank you for that information, Alexandros. :) I rely extensively on
machine translation, and online resources like Wiktionary, when I do
translations for these weekly threads in most languages. There will
probably be more linguistic errors in the future. Comments regarding
translations would be appreciated.

[Wikimedia-l] Six months left before Wikidata's sixth birthday

2018-04-30 Thread Léa Lacroix
Hello all,

*(sorry for crost-list posting)*

Every year since Wikidata went live, on October 29th, 2012, the Wikidata
community celebrates its anniversary all around the world. Local groups
organize meetups, workshops, share cake and greetings, to celebrate the
work of the editors building up the knowledge base and its ecosystem of
tools.

Last year, for the 5th birthday, the WikidataCon
,
first international conference dedicated to Wikidata was organized in
Berlin. Waiting for its return in 2019, the local events continue! We
encourage the community to meet up, the chapters and user groups to
organize events in order to build a Wikidata group in their area. Even if
you're just starting editing, or you've never been organizing an event
before, you can be part of the Wikidata's sixth birthday!

The events will take place around October 29th, 2018 (it doesn't have to be
on this exact day). You can find a lot of information on this page:

https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Sixth_Birthday

You will find the list of events that will take place around the world,
ideas of formats, ways to get funded, and documentation about organizing
events.

We're excited to see many small or big Wikidata events happening everywhere!

If you have any question or need help, feel free to contact me.
Cheers,

Re: [Wikimedia-l] Τι σας κάνει ευτυχισμένη αυτήν την εβδομάδα? / What's making you happy this week? (Week of 22 April 2018)

2018-04-30 Thread Alexandros Kosiaris
Aside from the actual content (it's nice to see the legal case in
Greece ending), seeing the subject in Greek was one more reason I
became happy. But I think a small correction is in place. A more
appropriate way of saying "What's making you happy this week?" would
be "Τι σας κάνει ευτυχείς αυτήν την εβδομάδα;", where "ευτυχείς" (an
adjective) would be the plural form of happy, which is used both when
addressing groups of people and when being polite. Alternatively
"ευτυχισμένους", could be used, with exact same meaning, just using
the participle form (and in the appropriate conjugation) instead of
the adjective. "Xαρούμενους" (again a participle, just of a different
verb) would also be valid with the same meaning for most people,
although if one wants to be pedantic, "χαρά" is closer to "joy" than
"happiness".

Regards,

It's still there. Still linking to a local Kmart store. I'll email legal
