It sounds like you are describing Videowiki:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/VideoWiki (where the database is Commons).

While valuable, I think that original content is needed, be it homemade
animations, or videos from events or places recorded by the user and never
published anywhere else.

I disagree. Using non-open tools in our workflows is a poison that should
be resisted by any means possible.

Instead, we should create an app (or integrate in the Commons app), the
possibility to record video natively in a free and open format.
Yes, it would be a big task, but it would show that we mean what we say
when we talk about the essential infrastructure of the ecosystem of free
knowledge and would be of great benefit not only to our movement, but to
the society in general.

There are a few risks that could be harmful, although I don't think they
are neither certain nor very direct.
But, if we do give up our principle of only using and allowing open source
(that we held for over 20 years) here are a few of these risks.
The first I come to think of is that we alienate the volunteers that hold
these ideals high (remember the mp4 vote on Commons in 2014).
Second, we dilute the concept of "open" by implying that these usage
restricting licenses are just as good as FOSS licenses.
Third, we are not being a good role model for the rest of the open movement.

With these risks in mind, I would much rather we wait for a FOSS model, not
rushing on a hype train, even if it is not as powerful.

Yes. The common definition is that if it is not open source, it is
proprietary. But you don't need to take my word for it.

Point 3 in the "What uses of Cloud Services do we not like?":

*"Proprietary software*: Do not use or install any software unless the
software is licensed under an Open Source license
."

The Wikimedia Cloud terms of use even narrows it down to only Open Source
Initiative approved licenses. So if not even CC0 licenses are allowed on
Wikimedia Cloud (that license is only approved by the FSF, not by the OSI),
for sure, the RAIL license is not allowed.

2023-03-29 Thread Jan Ainali
Hi Alek, nice to see you here!

On the contrary, I think it is important to, as early as possible, deter
all these attempts to weaken the concept of "open" and that we as a
movement need to take a hard stance against them.
These proprietary licenses do not fit the spirit of sharing all knowledge
and letting anyone do whatever they want with it.
It's not that they are using licenses that currently are not approved by
the leaders of the open source movement, it's that these licenses are
fundamentally, and deliberately, constructed so that they will never be
approved by these bodies.

But yes, we will probably soon see FOSS licensed LLMs, and from these, we
can choose which ones we might want to help develop.
Let's just wait for that day, rather than make a hasty and morally dubious
bet on models available as of today.

No, BLOOM is not FOSS by any means.
It fails freedom 0 of the four freedoms from the Free Software
Foundation[1], and it is not recognized as an open source license by the
Open Source Institute (and will not be as it fails requirement 6 of the
open source definition[2]).
So that model, any other using the RAIL license, is a dead end.

https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Mest_visade_artiklar_2022

Doing it per language is much easier than per country, as the data is
publicly available.

I think that what was requested was which affiliates that voted, not which
individuals.

But we should note, that the list of users who represented the affiliations
and voted is already public here:

[Wikimedia-l] Re: Movement Charter Drafting Committee elections are now open!

2021-10-18 Thread Jan Ainali
Thanks for your reply Kaarel,

I just wanted to note that UI of SecurePoll caused problem in the board
election too, and that the same excuse was used then "in a short time once".
Obviously this is a piece of infrastructure that we need in the movement
and that any team doing one election should not need to fix the software
for it.

Hence, a specific project, unrelated to any election, should be tasked to
solve this by the Wikimedia Foundation. And it should start soon to avoid
us finding ourselves in the same problem when the next election is being
called.

Thanks,
Jan Ainali

On the contrary, I believe that in actual votes, in contrast to our regular
consensus seeking processes onwiki, campaigning should be
explicitly encouraged. That being said, behavioral guidelines could still
apply on certain channels, but getting votes by talking about your platform
and what you want to achieve if you win should not be disallowed in general.

Re: [Wikimedia-l] Surveys using third party tools on Wikimedia projects

2021-02-15 Thread Jan Ainali
Limesurvey [1] is a very active project and I would be surprised if a
security error wouldn't have been fixed in many years. Especially if it was
reported as a security incident back to the community. Which should be the
procedure when such things are discovered, is not only good practice in
open source, it's being a good netizen in general.

My point here isn't to put blame for things in the past, but to make sure
that we as a community make sure that the ecosystem of open source tools we
need in all the affiliates is healthy. This is an investment of time for
sure, but instead we don't have to pay by giving up privacy (sometimes we
might also save money in license fees, but this we shouldn't count on).

Doing this investment would Increase the Sustainability of Our Movement
and Provide for Safety and Inclusion, very much inline with our new
strategy recommendations.

Re: [Wikimedia-l] online meetings

2020-11-16 Thread Jan Ainali
Hello Gnangarra,

I really like your sentiment and appreciate your effort to keep the
community healthy. However, we should acknowledge that with the ongoing
pandemic, not everyone is able to visit their families. Over the years a
lot of friendships have been formed in our community as well. Being able
to collaborate with them might be a very nice feeling for many.

So as a compromise, I suggest not to enforce a complete stop for online
meetings, but rather just pause the kind of meetings where important
decisions are being taken. Friendly meetups, chatting cafés or co-editing
sessions might be just what is needed for many to stay in a positive state
of mind. As long as they don't *require* people to join because their voice
would not be heard on some matter I believe online meetings are just fine.

Warm regards
Jan Ainali

Re: [Wikimedia-l] Foundation and affiliates disclosing salaries on job ads & the effect of this on workplace equity

2020-09-11 Thread Jan Ainali
This is a very interesting topic and I am intrigued by how the Humanitarian
OpenStreetMap Team has their salary models transparent on their website:
https://www.hotosm.org/salaries
Perhaps there is something to copy from that as well?

Re: [Wikimedia-l] Paid API?

2020-07-09 Thread Jan Ainali
Let me just flip the perspective. The tech giants are leveraging their
resources to serve the knowledge we create to even more users. In a way,
they are partly furthering our mission. So rather than solely using our
resources as a cost, it could instead be viewed upon as a multiplier. Now
this is just a hypothesis that I have no facts to back up, but it would be
nice if this project had this factor as a part of the analysis, if only to
prove it wrong.

To boil it down: are we sharing the knowledge to fewer or more people due
to the tech giants?
If it is fewer, they should just be stopped rather than asked to pay.
If it is more, there is an argument for allowing it to incur costs, this is
after all our mission. Of course, if the cost is cannibalizing our capacity
to serve knowledge to others then some more complex evaluation needs to be
done. As far as I am aware no such analysis has been published. If I am
mistaken, a link would be appreciated.

Re: [Wikimedia-l] ഈ ആഴ്ച താങ്കളെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിച്ച വാർത്ത എന്താണ്? / What's making you happy this week? (Week of 27 October 2019)

2019-10-27 Thread Jan Ainali
I am happy this week for how it was possible to attend Wikidatacon
remotely. Most importantly, there were great livestreams from three
parallel sessions. The videos from those were made available for watching
again in a very short time (never longer than an hour, usually within
minutes). There was a telegram group for the conference you could join, and
notes for the sessions were taken in etherpads. The hashtag on twitter was
really active which made it easier to find the highlights. A volunteer
setup a Discord channel so a number of us participating remotely could
voice chat in the breaks of the sessions as well.

Thanks to everyone who made it possible.

Re: [Wikimedia-l] [LGBT] Best practices for awarding scholarships

2019-10-07 Thread Jan Ainali
Besides any other aspects, most scholarship recipients are probably not
notable. When I suggested to create items for all of the Wikimania sessions
I perceived it as concensus (in the Wikidata telegram group) that they were
not notable. So unless they already are notable (and already should have an
item) getting the scholarship will not make them notable.

Re: [Wikimedia-l] Wiki loves SDGs

2019-09-19 Thread Jan Ainali
I heard a great quote the other month, a rif on some older quote: "There is
no free knowledge on a dead planet."

Besides that, there is plenty of core activities whose stories can be told
in the framework of the SDGs, because there is by nature a lot of alignment
between them. And when they are, they will be even more powerful, getting
more people onboard and further our mission beyond current plans. So it is
a false dichotomy putting the core mission against the SDGs when they
probably will be synergistic instead.

In Swedish Wikipedia we have Monthly tasks (mostly called monthly because
in that interval barnstars are given for completed tasks), where editors
gives small tasks for other editors to complete. Very similar to your

Re: [Wikimedia-l] Social media cards for sharing from the Wikipedia app

2018-07-26 Thread Jan Ainali
Well, the alt attribute is usually set in an img tag in HTML. So if you are
sharing to any place that does not render HTML (like Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram etc) this is not of much help even if the app would try to set
it..

But for these places, there should be an option for easily getting the text
from the image also added in the actual status update.

Does maps going to readers mean that there will be less focus on editors
tools for adding maps to articles and more focus on the readers possibility
to interact with the maps? If so, what is actually in the pipeline for maps?

That page is suggesting some sort of non-derivative variant (saying that
you should not 3d-print it in colour (also strangely specifying the metal
to silver, excluding more common 3d-printing metals such as aluminium or
stee, all the while there are pins in the Wikimedia Store that, judged by
the price, probably not are silver)). I thought the logo was under a CC
BY-SA license.

It is also strange that it does not allow printing it in, for instance a
blue plastic, to later paint white with black letters. Is there any special
meaning behind that or is it just vague wording? I.e. is it supposed to
target steps in the manufacturing process rather than the end result?

That file description page is unclear on the license. Could someone fix
that?

[Wikimedia-l] I'll be moving on

2015-10-08 Thread Jan Ainali
All,

For the last three years I have been the Executive Director for Wikimedia
Sverige. Before that I have been Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary of the
board (at different times) and have been involved since the founding of the
chapter in 2007. It is perhaps even an understatement to say that the
chapter has been a big part of my life. I have had the opportunity to be
part of a fantastic journey from starting the first chapter’s activities to
today, with stable strategic activities, seven people in the office, and a
diversified board. It has been an awesome time in my life and I have met
and worked with some truly wonderful persons along the way, and I am
thankful to all of you that have made it so inspiring. But now, as my
contract is about to come to an end, I feel that it is time for me to move
on to new endeavours. I am confident that the chapter is already in good
hands, with a professional board and an office with experienced staff
members and functional processes, but I’ll be around until at least the
beginning of January to make it a smooth transition.

I will obviously always be a wikimedian at heart and probably pick up on my
editing again and I will also stay subscribed to most mailing lists. If not
earlier, I’ll see you in Esino Lario.

Best regards,

Thank you and thanks to others whe also replied.

This info is helpful. One thing I was wondering is why only 5 WikiTowns
worldwide (based on the number of categories on en.wikipedia.org*). Aside
from the first in Wales and the two in Australia, there's one in South
 Africa and one for Gibraltar.

Curious to know by what measure the concept is popular. (That sounds like
a challenge but not meant to be.)

I can see that the work involved and expenses for the plates/signs might
 discourage potential projects.

I'm considering proposing a WikiTown project in my current town - Falls
Church, Virginia, US - which seems to me (based on a probably inadequate
understanding of what's involved) to be an ideal size for roll-out and
 maintenance of all elements.

I've hesitated to make preliminary contacts in local govt and civic groups
until I am more convinced on the sustainability of the overall Wiki Towns
effort and feel better able to answer inevitable questions. I think the
first mention of the idea is likely to get positive reaction, esp. if
framed in terms that relate to current planning efforts, but that could be
the end of it without a plan, a good cost-benefit presentation, and a few
 activists to carry it forth.

Is there a best practices guide? Any reason why there's no general or
project page on WP about Wiki Towns where such info might be collected?
(And to where this discussion might move?)

All ideas and any info appreciated.

Yes Australia has two ongoing Wikitown projects

-

I'm created both projects and are responsible for their on going activity,
the projects activity spikes depending on the availability of funding for
each set of new plates. I was also fortunate enough to see the talk in
Washington in 2012. WikiTowns have a wide appeal and are very popular the
issue is that they require significant time to build which gets complicated
 when you rely on volunteers.

What is the status of the Wiki Towns effort? I first heard of it at
Wikimania 2012, but looking at the list of actual projects, it appears to
have had limited appeal. Noting also that in a couple of cases there were
 controversies.

I tracked down a Wikitown email list, but no reply to an inquiry there.

 TIA for any info,

  Hi all,

Today the Wikimedia Foundation published a report on its activities in
  calendar year 2014.

This State of the Wikimedia Foundation

 https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:State_of_the_Wikimedia_Foundation.pdf

  report
provides a snapshot view of the Foundation’s major initiatives and
considerations during that period. It also offers a baseline assessment
 of
key efforts made by internal Foundation departments, with an emphasis on
data-based results, project impact, challenges, and how our work supports
  our mission.

Last December, the Wikimedia Foundation entered into the beginning of a
strategy planning exercise. As we progressed, we found people had
 differing
familiarities with the work, needs, and concerns of other departments --
the proverbial Blind Men and an Elephant.[1] In response, we began
 pulling
together information as a baseline reference so we would better
 understand
each others’ work. This report is the outcome of that research.[2]

Although the information in the report was originally gathered in
 response
to an internal Foundation need, we planned to make it public as a report
from the very beginning. It is intended to be relatively candid, sharing
insight into where teams feel they have strengths and where they feel
 there
  are development areas.

The report also offers the first look at the Foundation’s internal Call
 to
  Action for 2015

 https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Communications/State_of_the_Wikimedia_Foundation#2015_Call_to_Action
  .
The Call to Action is a set of actions for the 2015 calendar year to
 focus
the staff of the Foundation on our core functions. These include
 improving
the processes by which we do our work, building stronger community
relationships, and exploring new ways to expand free knowledge. Terry,
 our
  new COO https://blog.wikimedia.org/2015/03/20/wmf-welcomes-coo/, will
manage its implementation over the coming year.

Finally, a note: the report is a standalone product designed to aide the
strategy development process, and does not substitute for the Quarterly
Reports, Annual Report, or Annual Plan process. It is scoped only against
the Foundation’s existing workflows in 2014, and not against the work of
the Wikimedia movement overall. We have not committed to making it an
  annual exercise.

The full State of the Wikimedia Foundation report is available as a wiki
  here

 https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Communications/State_of_the_Wikimedia_Foundation

and as a PDF on Wikimedia Commons here

 https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:State_of_the_Wikimedia_Foundation.pdf

. You can also find more information in our blog post:
  https://blog.wikimedia.org/2015/04/02/new-wikimedia-foundation-report/.

We hope you find it interesting, and welcome your feedback.

  Thanks,

Thanks for your feedback Wil and glad that you like the idea.
This is the link to a page giving some more detail on this proposal -
 https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/PlaceBook_Wiki
Initially I was thinking that a new platform would be the way to go with
this, as I had thought that the type of content being posted could be
likely to contain more multimedia resources than the standard wiki postings
and so was thinking about the volume of data that might need to be stored
and how this could be linked in as flexible a way as possible - perhaps
using a Graph database. I was also thinking that a new platform could allow
us to tailor an API specifically for this using the GPS co-ordinates as the
primary means of indexing information and that this could open up the data
to being used in unexpected ways by other developers.

However, that was before I had found out about the WikiData project, which
as you suggested, could at first glance looks like it could be a good fit
for adaptation for use with this proposal. I've not had a chance to study
its data schemas in any depth to research its suitability in detail though,
but am hoping to find time to do so soon, so any pointers about the best
place to start would be gratefully received.

The co-ordinates link you mentioned seems to give you geographical
information about the location via a Geohack page, which is not without
interest. However, it does not seem to be providing a gateway onto a richer
set of resources about that specific location - so we don't seem to be able
to access more narrative content with images and footage of significant
events that may have occurred there or stories of those who have lived in
 this place.
I like your thoughts about dataset mappings to jumpstart this and was
thinking that the way to do this would be to team up with local historical
societies to begin with to get them to take ownership of their local areas
and begin to upload images and data with their commentaries and narratives.
With an organisation like the Wiki Foundations backing this, it would lend
a lot of credibility to the project and I'm sure this would be met with
enthusiasm by professionals and amateurs alike, particularly if it was seen
as a way of promoting local heritage.

For instance, English Heritage already has a system of assigning blue
plaques to houses of special interest in the UK and so I imagine it would
be relatively easy to persuade them to link these into this kind platform,
along with images of the people in question and more detail of what they
did at the specific residence that was of such importance. Ideally I would
hope that ordinary people accessing this information would start to realise
that they could upload personal narrative and recollections to the same
system, so in effect affording them an opportunity to create their own
blue plaque and in so doing create a folk history of the locations in
 which they live.

I think there is a real human need to try to leave a mark and record
something of themselves within the landscape - you just need to look back
at cave paintings to see that this is an ancient urge within us. This is
one of the reasons I'm confident that a system similar to the one I've
proposed is fairly inevitable, as it's ultimately motivated by human need
but facilitated by current technology, rather than vice versa. My initial
thoughts were that this natural desire could allow us to charge a small fee
based on the number of megabytes posted, which could be used to guarantee
the data storage for a certain number of years (or decades), as well as
funding the project more widely and helping to finance the cataloguing of
other items that could be of more general historical importance.
Further thoughts anyone may have on this gratefully received.

 * Wouldn't this be a good fit for additions to the existing data

 Hi,

If I recall correctly, the development of the MoodBar extension was
declared as discontinued, but I see that it is still being used by some
wikis. If I'm reading the configuration[1] correctly, it's enable on the
 following projects:
 * French Wikisource ( http://fr.wikisource.org/ )
 * Incubator ( http://incubator.wikimedia.org/ )
 * Dutch Wikipedia ( http://nl.wikipedia.org/ )
 * Wikimedia Sweden ( http://se.wikimedia.org/ )

It's also enabled on https://test.wikipedia.org/ ; I'm not sure that it
should be there if it's not used on most projects, but I also don't know
whether https://test.wikipedia.org/ is even used much now that most
 testing
is done in the Beta Labs (as far as I know).

If anybody in the above projects thinks that the MoodBar is useful then it
should probably stay enabled, and maybe even revived and installed on other
 projects.

But if the feedback left by new users through this tool is not actually
read and handled, then it should probably be disabled.

Today there was the announcement for the Nobel prize in literature. Quit
interesting is that the Swedish Radio, Swedish Television and the Norwegian

This is an excellent event idea, congratulations to Wikimedia Norway for
 organising it.
It is also a brilliant example of how Chapters and other groups around the
world can take responsability for topics that have particular
local relevance to them, and take a leadership role in the worldwide
movement in the process. In this case (an announcement of global interest,
but made in a particular building in a particular city) it also highlights
wikimedia as not just a virtual community, but a physical one, and that the
 two work in tandem.

Legoktm just reminded me of something I've been meaning to ask for a

following with my own blog. If you care enough to google it, keep in
mind that I'm the guy who isn't a Christian AM radio station. Even
after I did some of my own google jockeying, I missed David's and no

Does anyone know of a list of blogs covering Wikimedia issues that is

 it myself.

Hit me up at w...@wllm.com if you'd prefer to discuss offlist.

Since no one 's told me I can't promote other people's blogs yet,

In the recent discussion of editor engagement effectiveness on

practice arose. I would like to know whether anyone shares my concern that
eliminating wikitext talk pages will remove what has, for the past few
terabytes of edits, served the same purpose as the sandbox pages which we
encourage new editors to practice with.

Is that just enwp? On svwp we do not encourage people to use the talk pages

Both Google and Wikimedia claim to be global, multi-lingual solutions. So
both we and Google should be aiming higher.

But of course take my perspective with a grain of salt - I've always found
it crazy that there is not a standardized citation format across the

Re: [Wikimedia-l] [Wikimedia Education] How to force to enable Visual Editor

2013-10-15 Thread Jan Ainali
From Charles original questions I guess that he would be satisified with
something like:

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UserLoginenablevisualeditor=1

which should enable the Visual Editor for users signing up through that
link. If it is possible or not to do that I have no idea.

 Hear hear.

I know this is a battle that the Foundation's engineers can't possibly win,
given the circumstances which VE was moved from opt-out to opt-in on enwiki
 (see

 https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)diff=prevoldid=574251354
 ,
for those who aren't aware). Turn it on, turn it off; either way someone
 gets upset.

From a pure technical standpoint, is it possible to put a checkbox on the
new user page or something so that new users can turn it on without having
to delve deep into the untamed wilderness that is the user preferences
 page?

 Cheers,
 Craig

Because if it's the latter, I'm really worried about the health of a
community that would actively bemoan greater democratization of a
project whose entire /raison d'etre/ was the democratization of knowledge.

I have not read the vision statement as it is the production of knowledge
that need be availible to every human being, but the consumption. To let a
lot of people edit is mere a very useful tool to provide readers with the
sum of all human knowledge rather than a reason for itself. If there are
other tools more effective, we ought to investigate them (or make the
vision clearer).

Actually, having co-drafted the Vision Statement (it was drafted at
the October 2006 Board retreat in Frankfurt and then finalized after
community discussion), I can assure you that that was not the intent.
I recall that Florence and I talked about that specific aspect a fair
bit. We proposed the language share in over given free access to
in order to emphasize that it's not a one-directional process (some
treasure trove of knowledge that you are given access to), but a
process we are creating an opportunity to participate in. It could be
made clearer, but that was the intent.

In any case, I'm not sure why we'd conclude that making the production of
knowledge more widely available is somehow harmful to the cause of making
the consumption of knowledge available to everyone. Because the success of
Wikipedia has been built on rather the opposite of that. In that context
which comes first, production or consumption, is sort of a
chicken-or-the-egg question about the origin of network effects.

 --Michael Snow

Firstly, the clarification from Erik is very valuable. Perhaps I am the
only one making that interpretation from the wording in the vision
statement, but if what Erik say is the intention is correct (and I have no
reason to think otherwise) it could perhaps be stressed further to let
everyone in the movement be aware of the importance.

Michael, I would not say we should conclude that it is harmful, rather I
would say (or at least, before Eriks clarification) that we would need to
justify why democratization of production as an end would be more
important than giving free access to the sum of all human knowledge. As a
thought experiment, what if the question is not chicken-or-the-egg, but
rather-natural-born-chicken versus science-improved-production-of-hens? Is
the nutrition gained for the consuming population less worth than the
employment of farmers?

One of the strategic goal of the plan of wikimedia movement is the quality.

That is true. However, the strategic plan does not go into detail on how to
measure it. Is it an article that only has claims backed by sources? If so,
the bot-generated articles are very high-quality. Is it a featured article?
Then I guess that reaching the goal of 25% will be pretty tough.

Actually, the most reasonable way to reach that goal, having 12,5 million
quality articles in two years, is to use some sort of automation.

I am totally supportive of the idea to create articles in this way if
 they
are more than a simple infobox with 5-6 stats in it. The bot generated
  form
[1] of the millionth Swedish article is where these bot generated
 articles
can start from; a useful stub. If we take seriously this collect the
 sum
of all knowledge bla bla, then absolutely ok to generate such articles,
moreover it should be done wherever, whenever possible (like with the
  Swedish lakes).

Having zillions of articles will generate a lot of new editors from the
simple fact that more people will have chance (and larger chance) to
 bump
into wiki articles while browsing the internet. Or in an easier form:
Wikipedia will reach more people by cover more and more topics in a more
  an
  more detailed form.

The first problem, you mention is who will maintain them. Well, probably
those who join through this massive expansion; who are already
 interested
in butterflies and actively learning about them on the net. Or those who
find their favourite fishing lake on Wiki and add some pictures and a
 bit
  more detailed info about them.

The other problem what you're describing is that all of these future new
editors will be unqualified (ni your wording idiots) while all the
chapters are heavily working on creating qualified editors through
 their
  various education programs.

My question is: is this really a problem? How many of you joined
 Wikipedia
after being educated how to edit and stuff and how many of you joined
 by
bumping into articles so many times that you've eventually started
editing them? How many of you started as idiots?

  I did.

   Payin´ peanuts, gettin´ monkeys

  Servin´ facts, gettin´ idiots.

An unmanageable, not maintainable mass of articles is the best way to
breed idiots. Because facts do not create knowledge.

If that is our goal, then automatically created Wikipedias ar the best
  way
to solve one of our biggest problems, namely the permanent loss of
  authors.

Maybe it is completely sufficient if you know that somewhere facts are
stored in a most possible stupid form.

I started more than fifty years ago learning about facts, facts without
understanding. But nine years ago I startet to learn something about
  knowledge, understanding and correlations.

Why do not you need people like me? If we have bots now?

Do we want to make ourselves more important with impressive numbers?

  Hubertl!

The german language Wikipedia has no single article that was generated
 by
a bot. I'm proud of it. If this would take place in de:WP, many people
  will
  leave this project. With certainty.

Anyway, that does not matter, a bot is probably much better for
 monkeys!

Interesting case of a low percentage of common sense.

At the moment, I believe that none of our chapters publish figures or
estimates for the ratio between admin, fundraising and admin work, even
if we publish detailed annual reports. Personally, I don't feel we are
in a strong position to be amused by inadequate reporting by other
organizations when we are not clear on this ourselves.

It would be a great improvement to transparency if I could say, even
 roughly, whether
my own chapter were spending 90%, 80% or 70% of our donated funds and
grants on planned charitable outcomes, rather than having no figures, and
having to defend the position of not knowing and finding
reasons why we would never try to calculate it from the figures
sitting in our reports. If it turns out that less than 70% of the
money was being spent on the outcomes defined in our shared mission,
this might encourage us to look rather carefully at exactly where the
rest was going, don't you think?

 Thanks,
 Fae
