[Wikimedia-l] User Halibutt has passed

2018-01-31 Thread Natalia Szafran-Kozakowska
I am sad to inform you that today Krzysztof Machocki (user:Halibutt) has
passed away. With his passing our community loses a brilliant and
passionate Wikimedian and Wikimedia Polska loses a valued spokeperson. But
what is the most important - many of us lose a beloved, beloved friend.

Krzysztof was known for his joy and passion. For his faith in how Wikipedia
makes the world better.
We lose him but let us not lose that faith.

There is a memorial page on Polish Wikipedia. You can leave your
condolences there and we will give them to Krzysztof's family.

[Wikimedia-l] Help a Wikipedia & Commons volunteer raise funds for a new computer.

2016-02-29 Thread Natalia Szafran-Kozakowska
Hi all

You probably know Jacek Halicki[1]. And even if you don't - you probably
have seen his pictures. Jacek has contributed about 9000 photographs to
Wikimedia Commons (many of them are Quality, Featured or Good Images). It
was not easy for him - Jacek has a severe mobility impairment and is unable
to walk on his own. He moves around on a special tricycle. Imagine how hard
it is for a photographer, especially if he specializes in photographing
narrow streets of small towns.
Jacek has done a lot for Wikimedia projects. And now he needs our help. His
computer has been stolen from him, and without it he can't share his works
with Wikimedia projects. He has started a campaign[2] to raise funds for a
new computer. Please support him in any way you can. By contributing or
just sharing the story with your friends or through social media. Thank
you!

Dear Anna! You have a great talent to inspire people. I can never tell you

Wikipedian, a wonderful teacheer and a beautiful person. Hope that we will
still have a chance to meet on Wikimedia events.
I wish you many great adventures and I thank you for being such an

Yes, only Polish projects. And there is one more thing worth mentioning -
this year the jury picked from all Wikimedia Poland actions, initiatives
and projects from the last 4 years. Next year they will only pick from
projects organized in 2015. We decided to include older projects because we
really felt that there were some nice ideas in the past and we wanted them
to have a chance of winning.

[Wikimedia-l] The Wikipedia Monument commemorative book

2014-10-14 Thread Natalia Szafran-Kozakowska
Dear members of the Wikimedia Community!

On October 22, 2014, at 6:00 p.m., at the *Frankfurter Platz* in Słubice
the Wikipedia Monument will be unveiled. We would like to give the
Wikipedia community to express their thanks to the originators of the
Monument, i.e. the employees of Collegoun Polonicum in Słubice and the
Mayor of the town, by preparing a commemorative book. The entries to the
book will be collected on an dedicated polish Wikipedia page, and
afterwards they will be printed and presented to the hosts of the unveiling
ceremony by the representative of the WIkimedia Polska association.

If you wish to thank the originators of the idea of erecting the world's
first monument to Wikipedia, add a few words of your own on this page:
https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Pomnik_Wikipedii_-_Ksi%C4%99ga_pami%C4%85tkowa
.
We will collect the entries by October 18 (Saturday), 23:59 CET.

Feel free to write in your native language if you want to - you don't have
to use English (or Polish :) ).
