There are other types of periodicity besides those of chemical characteristics, Nevertheless it is not clear what periodicity might be displayed by economic data, except possibly in share prices etc, but those do not appear to be relevant to the subject. Thanks Jane for the response. I'll contact Wikidata and see how my data can be incorporated. The thing about Wikidata is that its goal to be a very expansive semantic database to support all other Wikipedia projects. I do support Wikidata. But the whole point of my project is create a short, simple model to display economic statistics. This is to support the economic community. I will make a list of articles using the [[outline]] feature. That seems like the best idea. Geni, i see what you mean. I'm not correct to call it the periodic table of economics (no periods involved in my model). I have somebody from the World Bank helping me out on this project also. He said he would do the article for the Bahamas, Haiti and Bolivia. Another student said he would work on Greece. I am have this project listed for volunteers at the London School of Economics. I also contacted the newly created Volcker Alliance. They have not gotten back to me. Once I finish the top ten economies I'm going to print them all out and send it in the mail to the Economist. I will do this project alone, but it would be nice to have some volunteers. Re: [Wikimedia-l] If you are passionate about world hunger, sustainability and global issues please read this
Hi Alex, I sense some frustration here. I think what you are doing is brave and needed, and you could probably use some help. The pages on economics and economics policy are some of the most neglected on Wikipedia (that and plastics and ..., but let's not go into a whole list of neglected topics, please folks) . I think your chances of finding like-minded economics-oriented Wikipedians quite small, but sending random cries for help periodically to this list will propably not help you find those people. Your main obstacle to success is your lack of knowledge about how Wikipedia works. As Lydia politely pointed out, you have not even tried to find out how your data could be included in WikiData, where it could potentially be used by all projects in all languages. As I see it, you have through your research located the data for several countries. This is all good. Each source of data needs to be defined on Wikipedia somewhere as an authority on that country's economic data. So first you need a list of economic data holders per country. Next these need to go on WikiData as list holders, and next, the data can be filled in property fields per country municipality (or whatever granularity of the data you are looking for). The data can be aggregated or you can just use the list holder data at each level. You cannot, however, just type in values of data without naming the sources. That would qualify as original research, which is a no-no on Wikipedia. Hope it helps, Jane 2013/6/19, Alex Peek : > All that i believe is that the world needs an economic period table. > > > On 18 June 2013 23:42, geni wrote: > >> On 18 June 2013 18:38, Alex Peek wrote: >> >> > I demand that my project gets global attention. >> >> >> Well you've got British and German >> >> >> >> > I cannot emphasize how >> > important this is. My project does not aim to be an expansive database like Wikidata. The goal of my project is create the *periodic table* for economics readable to laypersons. To my knowledge, no other economist has attempted to make a 'periodic table' for economics. I demand that my project gets global attention. I cannot emphasize how important this is. The current political leadership has shown incapable of addressing our current problems (environmental destruction world hunger, etc.). Change is needed. A new economic perspective is needed. I feel morally responsible to stand on top of a mountain and yell for attention. My intentions are altruistic. People are dying of starvation everyday and I will not shut up until they have food. I have listed below draft article that I have been working on. Please check them out. Project Home page: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Global_Economic_Map Countries ranked by 2011 GDP 1. I do not intend that this become a new sister project. I am simply using Wikipedia as a platform to consolidate the data. This project is oriented for public administration.
