Re: [Wikimedia-SF] maker faire interactive map

2010-04-06 Thread James Salsman
Laszlo Kozma has agreed to open source WikipediaVision as part of a
larger Google Summer of Code student proposal he submitted at my
request. I see now that the other work Laszlo has proposed is at
http://www.lkozma.net/idea23.html and
http://www.lkozma.net/idea44.html and I hope he incorporates those
into his proposals, because it's not clear presently whether he was
intending to include them I believe the plan for WikipediaVision is
to enhance it with up to 500-1000 characters of the introduction, and
a shorter context around the first instances of the red-character
portion of the diff from both diff columns. I don't remember whether
Lazslo's plan includes image thumbnails either but they are mentioned
in the corresponding bug in bugzilla.

Reminder: still need beach ball and/or volleyball for
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/San_Francisco_13 -- who
has one?

2010-04-06 Thread Jon Davis
Actually we talked about having this very exact thing for Maker Faire at the
last meetup. That map updates fairly slow, and doesn't leave any of the old
updates. But yes, we would really love to see something like this at Maker
Faire.

[Wikimedia-SF] maker faire interactive map

2010-04-06 Thread Ariel T. Glenn
I haven't been following closely but someone brought up in the
#wikimedia-tech channel the idea of a real-time map of recent changes
edits for display at MakerFaire.

I supose people know about one such map already:

http://www.lkozma.net/wpv/index.html

Have people been in touch with the developer? Do we want something like
this? Have people already settled on other eye candy?
