I wonder if such a model would work:

* A group of volunteers selects images from Wikimedia Commons and uses a
wiki to sort and rank them and finally create the list of images on a
particular page. This page can hold already images parked for future
publication - like we plan a few weeks in advance, so we only have to do
the whole selection process maybe four times a year.
This may be a designated area in the members wiki, which includes the
Commons files.

* A script regularly reads this wiki page and determines which is now
the current image of the day. It adds it to a RSS feed which holds the
last n images of the day in descending order.
This may be run as a cron job on the WMCH server, I am happy to set up
some script (I already have done both PHP / MediaWiki API and RSS
scripts) or just provide shell access to someone who manages this script.

* Everyone else can then use the RSS feed to get the image of the day on
their website, upload it to Tumblr, whatever, send a tweet, post it on
facebook... (the latter two things can easily be done with
http://twitterfeed.com/ which automatically posts from RSS to Twitter,
Facebook and LinkedIn).

The Wikipedia Article of the Day of de:wp is also published through RSS.

Only one suggestion.

Please consider as central entry point Commons because it's unrelated to
the language and easier to use (people already have an account).

In addition the publication in social networks may help to widespread the
page of Wikimedia Ch projects in Commons and attract more people interested
to evaluate and to select.

I don't know. Would be good if you or someone else could find out.

Whatever you want, depends on the preference of those doing it. I'd most
likely opt for GitHub or using our own SVN.

Hi,

This project is now almost ready to be launched, here are a few precisions:
* Purpose is to offer more visibility to Swiss GLAMs and swiss heritage.
* Swiss GLAM pictures will fill this picture of the day stream
* The idea is to advert one picture with a small story around (a few
sentences)
* Make it as much as possible a multilingual experience.
* Work will be done on Commons, but we want to spread the information on
Twitter, Facebook and local Wikipedias. Tumblr is a good idea too, if
someone wants to keep it synced.
* Micha and me will start the process with ~2 pictures a week, but this
wants to be a community project.

More information coming next week.

Here's one (empty) place on Wikipedia where you could advert these pictures of

Please keep in mind that using Social Media (inc. Tumblr in that particular
case) only for pushing/spreading, without having a plan (ie people, time,
and a strategy for reaching active communities before the launch) for
nurturing conversation on each channel with its dedicated tone would be at
best noise without a chance to find its public, unfortunately.

Content alone doesn't work anymore, you need non-automated ways to put it
in context.

A Tumblr is a very good idea - we can plan posts long in advance, and it's
an easy retweet for everyone (starting with @WikimediaCH).

As for dates, I would expect a slant towards summer months, so maybe as a
start we can go with a seasonal approach.

Or may be something simpler in order to invite people to participate and to
share the link of the projects like a simple vote in this page:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wikimedia_CH

Personally I think that a twit or a facebook post may be volatile.

A page may be a good initiative also to give a fix point of contact.
