Correction: 300 articles in 20 hours :)

As Bala said, the articles were mainly based on easily verifiable statistics
and well monitored by the community so the quality of the articles were not
compromised.

What is noteworthy is not just the number but the fact that people find
contributing to Wikipedia worthy enough so they rally their relatives and
colleagues to help. This is not an easy feat. But this is one of the best
bets to recruit new editors to growing Wikipedias.

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] 1 user. 20 hours. 300 articles

2011-04-29 Thread Srikanth Ramakrishnan
Lakshmivenkatesh, while I understand your apprehensions, we must
understand, that this has catalysed the creation of articles and their
further improvement.
If you really are worried then read the below paragraph:
" In January 2010, at the Monthly Bangalore meetup, there were two
representatives of Google present who had come to showcase (read:
advertise) their new Translator Toolkit. They had paid several people
to use their product, translate certain articles to Hindi, and then
publicised it. None of this involved any community discussion, and
some articles were deleted instantly. While outsiders praised Google's
action as spreading knowledge, Google, blamed the administration on
the Hindi Wikipedia for inefficiency and beaurocratic interference."
This is what worries me. Google is still out there. Wikipedia is their
translation Guinea Pig and they said they were working in further
Wikimedia integration for other languages, Tamil included.
I commend the incredible acheivements by this editor.
Do you have Barnstars on Tamil Wikipedia like we have on English?? Do
reward this user with several. : )
