Hey,
"Wikimedia Meet" [0] (https://meet.wmcloud.org), is a project in Wikimedia
CloudVPS for Wikimedians to meet virtually instead of using commercial
services like Zoom which might have security and privacy implications
[1][2]. Currently it's a jitsi (jitsi.org) installation.

If you want to just use/test it, let me know and I create you a user and
password. You can share the username and password with anyone you want to
meet but please do not post it publicly. In your email you can also give me
your desired user and password. **Do not reuse any password**. You can also
contact any of the ticketmasters instead of me:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Meet#List_of_ticketmasters

In order to make this project more robust, I'm looking for Ticketmasters
too, Ticketmasters create accounts for others (It doesn't require any
technical knowledge, you fill a form in web for others)

If you want to help maintaining it (which would be greatly appreciated) let
me know and I give you the needed access. I put the technical documentation
in mediawiki.org [3]. There are several bits you can help with, like
puppetizing it, scalability, observability, improving authentication,
trying to see if BBB can be used as well, and so much more. You can find
the tickets in the phabricator board and assign a ticket to yourself if you
feel like helping out.

[Wikimediaindia-l] Wikimedia Brand

2020-04-25 Thread Jayantilal Kothari
Dear Samir,
Why are you sharing Facebook group pages ? Will discussions happen out
there to decide actions. Then tomorrow you will use Whatsapp chat for
action.
You have shared a meta link where only 10 people have signed under
individual section and why this different page. I know this page Request
for comment (
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_comment/Should_the_Foundation_call_itself_Wikipedia)
where more than 400 people have voted to oppose against just 39 votes in
support. Are you taking this even to consider.
Someone has told me that WMF did Brand conference in Bangalore. I cannot
find any Meta for it. Can you please share the page link.

Regards,
Jayantilal

[Wikimediaindia-l] "Assamese Wikimedians speak" booklet

2020-04-25 Thread Gitartha Bordoloi
Dear Wikimedians,

Firstly I wish you all a very happy Rongali bihu/Poila
baisakh/Baisakhi/Vishu in spite of the gloomy times. Today we are bringing
out a pdf booklet containing the writings by Assamese Wikimedians about
their experiences and expectations of Assamese Wikimedia projects. All
these writings were published every now and then in our monthly newsletter
Wikipatrika from 2015 to 2020. Kindly go through it and point out any
deficiencies or scopes for improvement. Thank you.

Special thanks to User:Navinsingh133 for making the given list of Hindi
Wikipedia articles which are copy pasted here without any changes.

User:WikiPanti and User:Srajaltiwari contributions on these articles are
valuable. They have created more articles on this important topic than
listed here.

 Dear Friends,

I would like to start the mail with a word of love. I hope everyone of
us are doing well during this difficult times. I believe that we will get
through this situation and collectively world will outlive this pandemic.
What we are contributing to this world become enormously important during
this difficult times than any time ever before. Several volunteers around
the world contributing to create, improve, and update content about the
Covid-19 and pandemic which in many ways is service to the world.

During 3rd week of March, I created and worked on a WikiProject to
co-ordinate efforts (prioritize, list-out articles and resources, organize
workflow, etc.,) to create, improve and update content about Covid-19 in
Telugu Wikipedia. After that, on March 22, I started doing the same for
Indian languages by creating page for WikiProject Covid-19 in Indic
languages in meta. Unfortunately, due to a personal loss, I couldn't do
much about it for few weeks. Later I started coordinating people and
improving the Project page which finally took a shape:
 https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikiproject:Covid-19_in_Indic_languages
 .

*What is Wikiproject Covid-19 in Indic languages? Why is this required?*

*Wikiproject Covid-19 in Indian languages* is a meta-wiki project
dedicated to co-ordinate efforts to coverage about topics related in Indian
language Wikipedias. Although there are several efforts going on in various
Indian languages, there needs a central co-ordination project to ensure
 more collaboration and better outcomes.

Some of the things that we can do together:

- Co-ordinating efforts to create, share, and localise materials
and media needed to improve the articles.
- Collaborating with other

Hi Jayantilal,

Samir Elsharbaty here from the movement brand project team. I'd like to
build on Subha's response and clarify that proposals for naming conventions
haven’t been defined yet. According to the project timeline [1], several
proposals for a naming convention will be shared with the communities for
feedback in May, at the earliest. At the end of this review, one proposal
will be selected and refined. You can check the timeline to learn about
further phases with public reviews before the full proposal for a brand
system is presented to the Wikimedia Foundation leadership and the Board.

I would like to personally invite you to join us in the Brand Network on
meta wiki [2] or on Facebook [3] to keep up to date with the project
updates.

Thank you!

Best,
Samir

[Wikimediaindia-l] WP:NPOV violation

2020-04-25 Thread Methu Ryan
Hi,
I'm not a new user, lost my older account. I was active on WP couple of
years back.
While reading an article I found that few articles about violate WP:NPOV
(such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persecution_of_Chinese_Indians ).

This is not a discussion about one or two articles. The aggressive
adjectives and phrases should be changed. I have made a few changes to the
article, please see the history. I have also posted this on the
article-talk page, but, I believed that many Indian (or people who know the
context) users are not active on those articles. Where can I find people
who write on *Indian History* or people who monitor *WP:NPOV* and
*WP:Civility?*

Methu
