[Wikimediaindia-l] mediawiki-uploader

2011-12-15 Thread Shrinivasan T
Friends.

Tamil Wikipedia announced a Media Contest to increase the commons
media files like photos, audio and video in the wikipedia world.
see the announcement here.
http://ta.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contest/en

To upload the photos there are two ways available so far.

1. The web based upload wizard
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard

2. Java based upload tool - Commonist
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Tools/Commonist

We have to provide a detailed filename and description to the images
for uploading.

When we have a bunch of photos to upload, we have to select them,
crop, or edit them before uploading.

Found that that GThumb Image Viewer can show the files, edit the
files and add IPTC tags to the images.

We can view, edit, delete, rotate, crop and add the required Description
and Title to the images
for uploading to wikimedia commons.

How to upload the files?
There are two tools already.
But, I wanted to plugin to any image viewer to upload to wikimedia
commons directly.
No image viewer has that plugin.

DigiKam has it, but due to some issues, the mediawiki plugin is not released.

So, I started to write my own script for uploading all the files in a
folder to upload to mediawiki.

Here is it.
http://code.google.com/p/mediawiki-uploader/

Usage details are available in INSTALL and README files.

Thanks for the wikipedia users Surya and Sodabottle for their valuable
suggestions.

Please report if there are any issues.

Provide your suggestions for improving too.

Thanks.

[Wikimediaindia-l] Thoughts on adding info about temples from books

Shall we upload all the details from these books to wikipedia?

Is there any procedure to follow while adding information from book?

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] A report on SSN College Academy

2012-01-16 Thread Shrinivasan T
great work.

thanks to the efforts.
On 16 Jan 2012 14:47, Bala Jeyaraman sodabot...@gmail.com wrote:

 Hi,

A Wiki workshop/academy was conducted at SSN College of Engineering,
Chennai on 11 January. It was organised by SSN opensource enthusiasts under
the aegis of the SSN Tamil Club. Me, Srikanth Lakshmanan and Arunmozhi from
the Tamizha FOSS group. [1] 60 students attended the academy.

The academy began at 9 in the morning with a presentation of open web and
open source from SSN opensource enthusiasts. I followed it up with a intro
section on wikipedia and a hands on editing session for about an hour. I
covered the basics of wikipedia, notability standards, five pillars,
copyright issues. I also covered basics of Wiktionary and Commons. Next
Srikanth took a session on technology behind wikipedia and how the students
could contribute technically to Wiki projects. We broke for lunch at 12 and
 reconvened an hour later.

The afternoon session began with a audio recording exercise, where songs
of the Tamil poet Subramania Bharathi were sung and uploaded to
commons.[2] This served as a hands on exercise to identify the common
copyright problems and which material can be added to Wiki projects without
copyright issues. Public domain, nationalisation, copyright term expiry,
threshold of originality, open source file formats etc were discussed. Next
Arunmozhi ( a student of a College of Engineering Guindy and a developer of
Tamil open source software) took a session on the initiatives of the
Tamizha group. After that we went on a photo walk of the SSN campus. We
split into two groups and walked around the SSN campus taking pictures. The
images were uploaded to Commons. [3]. This served as an oppurtunity to
explain copyright issues like freedom of panorama and derivative works. The
academy ended with a vote of thanks from the Tamil Club convener.

Over all it was a highly successful exercise (IMO) and a lot of productive
work was done. The attendees were highly motivated and asked a lot of
pertinent questions which lead to some interesting discussions. They also
gave a few interesting suggestions about improving the usability of Wiki
pages from newbie perspective (Srikanth has already started work on
 implementing one of the suggestions).

I would like to thank the organising team (Dwaraka, Harvesh, Jason and
others) for doing an excellent job in organising the event , SSN Tamil
Mandram for its patronage and Wikimedia India Chapter for its help with
swag and printed material (though the quantity was nowhere sufficient :-).
Please ramp up the operation guys).

python-pyexiv2. apt-get install python-pyexiv2 took care of this.

[Wikimediaindia-l] Fwd: eidete - a nice screencaster for gnu/linux

To: ILUG-C il...@ae.iitm.ac.in

Found a nice screencasting application for ubuntu - eidete

Though the gnome 3 has its inbuilt screen recording app using
crtl+alt+shift+r
it can record only video, not the audio.

I was looking for a decent screenrecorder with voice.

gtk-recordmydesktop is good. But, we have to configure the parameters to
get video without any scattering effects.

Tried eidete. It is so good. Video is stored as webm format. video/audio
quality is fine.

Check more about it here:
https://launchpad.net/eidete
http://www.ubuntubuzz.com/2012/01/record-your-screen-activity-with-eidete.html

Recorded a sample screencast - intro to gnome 3 in Tamil.
check it here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eg5h1-YgoJI

Now, you can create screencasts easily with Eidete.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Monuments_of_National_Importance_in_Chennai_circle
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Monuments_of_National_Importance_in_Thrissur_circle

Though I am from Kanchipuram, I can not point out the places, that are
mentioned in these pages.
The same is for chennai too.

Is there any detailed address of each monument?

What does the numbers like S-TN-8, S-TN-9 ?

Example: S-TN-9 sivan koil (shiva temple) at kanchipuram.
There are more than 108 shiva temples at kanchipuram city itself.

What temple does S-TN-9 means?

Collect the details of full address of each monument so, the photographers
can reach the place easily.

Thanks.

[Wikimediaindia-l] Fwd: [FSFTN] Art & Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon @ Chennai

2016-03-19 Thread Shrinivasan T

Subject: [FSFTN] Art & Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon @ Chennai
To: mailingl...@fsftn.org

Hi,

To improve content on women and to encourage female editorship, Wikipedia
came up with the '*Art & Feminism Campaign*
'. The
idea is to conduct multiple edit-a-thons focused on improving content in
Wikipedia on women and the arts. This usually happens in March (around
women's day) and in last couple of years the event has been organized in
17+ countries and 75+ locations.

This year, we plan to host one such edit-a-thon in Chennai (the first in
India) on March 20 (Sunday). The aim is to bring together artists and
Wikipedians to edit Wikipedia articles on women and the arts. The event
will be a collaboration of people with subject matter expertise and those
with familiarity of Wikipedia eco-system to address the common issue of
gender gap.

The details about the event can be found here - Art And Feminism 2016 -
Chennai Meetup

We invite people of all gender identities and expressions, particularly
trans- and cis - gendered women, to be a part of this in-person, communal
updating of Wikipedia’s entries on art and feminism.

Cheers,
Srravya

Thanks for pointing pywikibot.
Never used it before.

Now learnt it and used the following snippet, to change the page quality level.

import pywikibot
from pywikibot import proofreadpage

site = pywikibot.Site('ta','wikisource')
page = pywikibot.Page(site, u"Page:")
text = page.text

pa = proofreadpage.ProofreadPage(page)

pa.text = pa.text.replace('level="1"','level="3"')

pa.save(summary="demo")

Thanks again.

Hi,

Write this script to connect Google OCR and WikiSource.

Hindi is supported well.

https://github.com/tshrinivasan/OCR4wikisource

Check the README and INSTALL for setup instructions in ubuntu or any
other linux.

Ping me or here for any assistance.

This is used by Tamil, Bengali wikisource communities heavily to OCR
more than 2000 Books.

[Wikimediaindia-l] Fwd: Notes : Wikipedia Mini Hackathon Chennai July 23, 2017

2017-07-23 Thread Shrinivasan T
-- Forwarded message --
From: Shrinivasan T <tshriniva...@gmail.com>
Date: 2017-07-23 22:22 GMT+05:30
Subject: Notes : Wikipedia Mini Hackathon Chennai July 23, 2017
To: il...@freelists.org

Today, from Indian Linux Users Group, Chennai, we conducted a mini
hackathon on Wikipedia.
We asked for ideas to the Tamil wiki community.
Collected the ideas here - https://ta.wikipedia.org/s/6t7w

We got 7 people. Balaji is a second year CS student. Syed Abuthahir is
joining his first company as Python programmer tomorrow. His college senior
Ajees is working. Neechalkaran is a well known contributor for wikipedia
for his bots. Padmakumar is a C/C++ expert. Sankar is a full stack
programmer. Myself a python kid.

With this energetic team with various skillsets, today's hackathon got some
interesting contributions.

Balaji hacked the UI of Tamil wikisource to show the wiki editing tools to
left side bar. He is exploring on adding Tamil typewriting keyboard to
Jquery.ime of "Universal Language Selector" extension of mediaiwki.

Padma Kumar explored the process of installing Tamil Text to speech system
provided by IIT Madras. With very less and confusing documentation, he was
downloading huge amount of software stack and compiling them for the entire
day. Found that they had many hardcoded paths for various files in the
code. Have to find and fix them manually. He will be exploring on this,
further.

Syed Abuthahir explored the features of wikitools, a python library. He
started to build a reporting tool to list out the contributions by all the
TamilNadu School Teachers. The tool is still backing. He will complete it
soon.

Neechalkaran explained and demonstrated his bots using Google Script
Engine. He explained how mediawiki api works. He learned working with
wikitools and python.

Sankar started to explore wikipedia as he is very new to it. Myself was
helping the participants to understand the requirements and to get into
hacking easily.

Will followup with the team to get the repo links and documentation.

Thanks for Raja Manohar for providing the venue. Thanks for Sankar and
Vasanth for nice hospitality.

Thanks for all the participants. Hoping to see them all as great
contributors to wikipedia. Let us conduct such events often. Meet you all
soon.

[Wikimediaindia-l] Fwd: Installing Tamil Text-to-Speech system from IITM Donlab

2017-09-19 Thread Shrinivasan T

From: Shrinivasan T <tshriniva...@gmail.com>
Date: 2017-09-20 2:35 GMT+05:30
Subject: Installing Tamil Text-to-Speech system from IITM Donlab
To: il...@freelists.org

IITM donlab is working on TTS system for various Indic Languages.
SSN Engineering college provided them the TTS system for Tamil.

Few months ago, filed a RTI to get the source and install it in local systems
https://goinggnu.wordpress.com/2017/03/10/filed-a-rti-to-get-info-on-tamil-tts-by-iitm-and-ssn/

They replied promptly and they told that all their TTS systems are
already open source. :-)

IITM released it as OpenSource here -
https://www.iitm.ac.in/donlab/tts/voices.php

After following up with IITM team in few mail threads,
On August 12, 2017, Myself, Mohan and Padmakumar visited IITM Donlab.

Prof Hema and Anju Thomas welcomed us.
We spent an entire day, trying to build the entire TTS system.

As the documentation was suitable for the preconfigured systems there,
we can not proceed further.

In the evening, we discussed and found that we dont need to build the
entire system.
They have already providing voice model files for festival.
We have just to download them and compile them to make them work with festival.

we can download the voice models from
https://www.iitm.ac.in/donlab/tts/voices.php

This seems easier for us.

Then, we were trying to compile the voice models. Again, with lesser
documentation,
we can not proceed much.

On Sep 15, Invited mohan to my home to work on this.
We spent a day with no much result.

Today, I mailed Anju of IITM and asked for help.
Viola.
We have compiled it already and we need to know where the tts script is.

It really works well.

Here is the demo - https://soundcloud.com/shrinivasan/tamil-tts-demo

Full Details of the installation script -
https://goinggnu.wordpress.com/2017/09/20/how-to-compile-tamil-tts-engine-from-source/

Automated all the installation and make a single script to do all the
magics - https://github.com/tshrinivasan/tamil-tts-install

There are still few improvements needed.
Currently it reads upto empty line.
Have to make to read entire page or chapter.
Will work on this.

Tons of thanks for IITM team, SSN team, Prof Hema, Anju, Mohan,
Padmakumar for all their great support on this.

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] Regarding Uploading 700 photos of a single temple to commons

2018-09-09 Thread Shrinivasan T
I have processed around 350 photos and added to a flickr album

https://www.flickr.com/photos/tshrinivasan/albums/72157699459704301

Will add remaining on around 10-15 days.

Hope we can move to commons from flickr.

There may be few duplicates.
Will do more filtering before sending to commons.

Share your thoughts on is it okey to send these kind of pics to commons.

I am still wondering on how to give name and descriptions to all of
these,as I dont know the names.

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] Regarding Uploading 700 photos of a single temple to commons

2018-09-06 Thread Shrinivasan T
Thanks all for the great comments.

I shoot those pics few months ago.
Filtering and improving them itself a huge task and demanding more
time and effort.

I was postponing that task due to various reasons.

WLM announcement gave me some encouragement to work on this.

Thats why asked this question.

Started processing them and improving my GIMP skills.

I agree that 700 pics from a single person for a competition is a kill.

I will upload them all to commons and add only top 10 pics to WLM.

Exploring for other options for slow conversion, for safe work.

[Wikimediaindia-l] Yercaud Elango is in Kolkota till July 5. Is it possible for a meet?

2018-06-29 Thread Shrinivasan T
Mr.Yercaud Elango is a regular contributor for Commons from Tamilnadu.

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Files_by_User:Yercaud-elango

He shared 11711 Photos related to Botony with all scientific name and
family details.

He wrote 85 books related to science In Tamil.
He is donating his books to FreeTamilEbooks.com too

He is in Kolkota now. He will be there till July 5.
He came there for a training at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acharya_Jagadish_Chandra_Bose_Indian_Botanic_Garden

He explained his works for commons to the fellow people there.

Many of them showed interest and asking him on how they can also contribute.

As they speak Bengali,Hindi, he feels that it will be better for them
to have a local wikipedian's guidance.

Do we have someone who can meet Yercaud Elango and his colleagues at
Botoncal garden?

Or is there any wikipedian's meeting happening in kolkata this
weekend, so that he can attend?

Reply here or contact him at
yercaudela...@gmail.com

It will be great help, if any local wiki community persons can meet
them and guide them for their regular contributions.

Thanks.

Need help from windows users on setup.

Please read the issue here

Subject: [Wikitech-ambassadors] Looking for Android users at your wiki

Hey folks,

We need your help. (I mean, really, I don’t think this will work without
you.) As you know, our readers mainly read the wikis on mobile phones, but
our editing tools are focused on desktop and keyboards. This will be a
problem for us in the long run: Wikipedia became a big thing because
everyone who read it could add information. If this is not true in the
future, we’ll have a harder time getting new editors. In the long run,
effective mobile editing is about our survival.

The Wikipedia Android app is going to try a couple of things to see if we
can get more people to start doing small tasks – adding or translating
short title descriptions.

I have two things to ask:

1) If you have an Android phone and can install the app, would you be
willing to test this yourself? We need to hear both from users who are
used to editing on mobile and desktop and from users who usually edit only
on desktop, so you don’t worry if you haven’t edited on mobile before.

Sign up here to help out:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScUj-8iCJf63OXEhMrtQCXfVksC8QF4souAX-Y7lmZubyAFfA/viewform

2) Could you spread the word and the sign-up link in your local community?
It would be most appreciated.

If you have questions, then I think that posting them on the talk page at
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Android_editing_features will be the best
way to reach the team. THANK YOU!

[Wikimediaindia-l] [OT] Regarding license of a public talk

2018-09-14 Thread Shrinivasan T
I have few queries on license of a recording of a public talk.

In YouTube, there are many videos of tamil public talks available. They are
on literature, history, politics and more.

Though the uploaded did not choose the license, who owns the copyright?

The speaker
The Video recorder
The event organizer
The venue owner
The public

I want to make podcasts using those talks. I attend few events and record
the same talk myself as audio.

Now there is no difference between my recording and the one on YouTube.

Now is it OK to upload my audio files to archive.org in a CC license?

If the license of a public event is any one of public license, shall I rip
the audio from YouTube talks of public events, and release in a CC license?

Share your thoughts.

Thanks.

[Wikimediaindia-l] Online Tamil Text to Speech - Introduction

2019-01-29 Thread Shrinivasan T
We are happy to release the Online Tamil Text to Speech conversion software
at http://tts.kaniyam.com

This is a Free Software. Get the source code here -
https://github.com/KaniyamFoundation/tts-web This is made with
Ubuntu/Linux, Python, Django, Celery, MySQL etc.
Introduction

This online software can convert your Tamil text files to audio files in
MP3 format. (TTS = Text To Speech)
How to Convert?

   1. Create an Account here http://tts.kaniyam.com/signup/
   2. You will receive an email with account activation link. Click that
   link.
   3. Do login
   4. Goto http://tts.kaniyam.com/upload/ Upload a file with tamil unicode
   text.
   5. Now, that text file will be converted as audio file (mp3) in
background. It may take some time for this. From few minutes to few hours
too. This wait time depends on your file size, Total number files being
uploaded, and queue order of your file etc.
   6. Once it is converted as MP3, you will receive an email with download
link. It will be displayed on your home page too. http://tts.kaniyam.com/
   7. Click the link and Download the MP3 file.

Frequently Asked Questions *What types of files can be uploaded?*

Only Tamil Unicode text files are supported. File can be upto 100 MB.
*Why do I have to register? Can I upload files without registering?*

The TTS conversion is slow process. It may take few hours to complete.
Waiting with browser tab open for few hours is not possible. To notify the
user, after the file conversion, sending email is one simple way. Thats why
we ask for registering. Tell us if there are even better ways.
*Shall I upload my private files?*

If you have more private, secret files, dont upload here. Dont upload to
any of the online applications. Anyhow, this is Free/Open Source Software.
you can install this in your home ubuntu/linux computer.

You can upload here general files, which are not too private to you. We
have made essential settings so that you only can access your files. No
other can access your files. (Except admins and server providers).
*How long the MP3 files will be there on the server?*

For now, we keep them for 3 days as testing. After three days, they will be
deleted automatically.
*Why there is only male voice? Why cant we have female voice?*

Female voice is in testing. Will add soon.
*Why there is only Tamil TTS? We need for other languages too.*

Other languages TTS are in our action items. We are yet to find suitable
TTS and how to use them. If you know about them, let us know.
*Is this software a safer one?*

Not 100%. As this is Free/Open source software, you can check its code at
https://github.com/KaniyamFoundation/tts-web There are many security
related things to do like adding SSL. Encrypting the files and hard disks
etc. We will do them soon.
*How to install this on Windows?*

No. Not possible.
*Why?*

When you have only two wheeler vehicle, we hope, you wont try to fit a car
seat on it and ride.
Contributors

This is done with the awesome contributions of many.

*IndicTTS* (https://www.iitm.ac.in/donlab/tts/index.php) is a project
driven by IIT Madras. SSN College of Engineering and IIT Madras jointly

https://www.iias.asia/the-newsletter/article/roja-muthiah-research-library-repository-tamil-studies

We explained about Kaniyam Foundation, FreeTamilEbooks.com and WikiData.

Requested them to share their books catalog to import in Wikidata.

They agreed and asked for the required fields of data, so that they can
query in their db and export them and share.

Natkeeran from tamil wiki gave this spreadsheet with required fields

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xftUPk8LQmuhvLIYiWIFQKDX4FCEQ64FjAAFubJAD3Q/edit?usp=sharing

This is a generic catalog fields for any book.

Is this fine?

What we have to do, once we received the books details, to import into
wikidata?

Do we have to get any permission or letter from Roja Muthiah library to
announce this as open data?

Share your thoughts.

Thanks.

[Wikimediaindia-l] digikam - help needed on workflow for uploading photos to commons.wikimedia.org

2019-11-01 Thread Shrinivasan T
Hello all,

I downloaded digikam 6.3.0 and found it has export to mediawiki plugin
enabled, after many years.

When uploading photos to commons.mediawiki.org using that export plugin, I
can select photos, give each photo a title, description and upload easily.

Now, I want to give the title and description, when viewing the photos
itself.

I want the below workflow.

   1. import photos
   2. add a tag (wiki) to the desired photos. (this is done)
   3. Add title, description to the photos while reviewing, (along with
   adding tag)
   4. Once done with reviewing, select the “wiki” tagged photos and upload
to commons via the export plugin.
   5. once the export is done, change tag to “uploaded” so that the
uploaded photos wont be shown on next batch upload.

Need help on 3 & 5

   1. where to give the title, description for the photos while reviewing
   the photos?
   2. how to change the tags in bulk?

Thanks.
see here -

[Wikimediaindia-l] How to see if there is some content on the talk page of any wikipage?

2020-02-24 Thread Shrinivasan T
Hello all,

When we are browsing wikipedia or wikisource pages, how can we know
that there are some content or discussion on the talk page, so that we
can check them too.

As a normal user, we have to click the talk page and check it.
If there is no discussion, it takes to talk page creation.

It will be good, if there are some visual identification, to inform
that there are some content on talk page.

Is there such a setting available already?
If not, how can we make it?

To:

Creating searchable Tamil PDF is a long time dream for Tamil People.
For so many reasons like PDF standards, Unicode Issues with Tamil,
Issues with rendering engines, etc, we could not copy/paste any tamil
content from PDF files.

We have a issue for this here
https://github.com/KaniyamFoundation/ProjectIdeas/issues/78

Today morning, I was reading this issue and explored about PDF files.
Found a PDF/A standard. It promised to give Unicode support. Is it
means a PDF/A file in Tamil is searchable?

YES. YES. YES.

Tested this using Libreoffice Writer and yeah. It works. I can copy
the tamil text as it is and even do a search within the PDF.

Here is a demo video on this in Tamil.

[Wikimediaindia-l] Fwd: TamilVU Released 10 Tamil software as Free/Open Source Software

2020-08-16 Thread Shrinivasan T
Tamil Virtual Academy is a TN govt driven organization, which is working
for Increasing Digital contents in Tamil Language.

It had funded few software projects at 2017 and released as only binaries.
Those software includes Tamil Spellchecker, text analysis, Browser plugin
for Tamil Text to speech etc.

With the binaries, no one can learn them or develop further. We have been
asking them to release the source code for long times.

Yesterday, got the news that they shared the source code here –
http://www.tamilvu.org/ta/content/%E0%AE%A4%E0%AE%AE%E0%AE%BF%E0%AE%B4%E0%AF%8D%E0%AE%95%E0%AF%8D-%E0%AE%95%E0%AE%A3%E0%AE%BF%E0%AE%A9%E0%AE%BF%E0%AE%95%E0%AF%8D-%E0%AE%95%E0%AE%B0%E0%AF%81%E0%AE%B5%E0%AE%BF%E0%AE%95%E0%AE%B3%E0%AF%8D

It is a very happy news. Tons of thanks for all the TVA team and all TN
Govt departments, officers behind this release.

I made a copy of all the code here https://github.com/Tamil-Virtual-Academy
for better visibility.

At 2015, TVA announced that all their contents are released in CC-BY-SA
license and all software with GPL v2 License.

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tamil-Virtual-Academy-Copyright-Declaration.jpg

It is a very progressive improvement in the world of free/open knowledge
movement.

We have seen only the western governments make these kind of decisions and
implement them. But happy to see the Tamilnadu govt is leading this in its
own way.

See the announcement here too

http://www.tamilvu.org/coresite/html/free-content-media.htm
https://goinggnu.files.wordpress.com/2020/08/tva-cc-announcement.jpg

Here is a Government order by Tamilnadu govt announcing all the govt
releases in Creative Commons license.

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:GoTN_Tamil_Development_Departments_order_on_creative_commons_cc_by_sa.pdf

Tons of thanks for all the great people behind this great initiative.

[Wikimediaindia-l] Releasing a small tool to explore wikipedia users contributions

2020-11-26 Thread Shrinivasan T
Last week, we had a Indic Wikisource Proofreadthon 2020 event. see
here for full details

https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Indic_Wikisource_Proofreadthon_2020

Though I did not participate in this event, (feels sad for this. Life
is too messy nowadays), I thought to build a small tool to give report
on any wikipedia user’s contribution on a given wikisite for a given
date range.

It may help to calculate, measure, decide on the contributions for
such competitions.

Mediawiki has a good API to fetch user contributions.
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/API:Usercontribs

Get all edits by a user.
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/API:Usercontribs

For my wonder, there was a sample python code on the same page.

The code gave only 500 results. I wrote a loop to get the data batch
by batch till all the data is received.

Published the tool here –
https://github.com/tshrinivasan/wiki_user_contributions_report

How to run?

python3 get_user_contributions.py

This will give the data as a CSV file. Used a csv-to-html converter
utility to convert this to a web page with all the data in a sortable
table.

For my wonder, my friend Dinesh Karthik, converted this as a nice web
application with flask, dash and hosted in heroku.

https://wiki-user-contributions.herokuapp.com/

Source : https://github.com/Dineshkarthik/wiki-user-contributions

Thanks to Info-farmer for providing the idea, Bartosz Dziewoński on
wikipedia mailing list for answering all my questions, Dinesh for
making a web application quickly.

https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikitech-l
is a good place to ask any tech questions regarding wikipedia.

Thanks to all wikisource contributors for the event and in general.

[Wikimediaindia-l] Few queries on points for wikisource proofreadthon 2020

2020-11-19 Thread Shrinivasan T
Hello all,

Thanks for all contributors for the event wikisource proofreadthon 2020.
Happy to see the great contributions .

Happy to see the stats here
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Indic_Wikisource_Proofreadthon_2020/Progress

On exploring the progress Found a hindi book, seeing good amount of bytes
added as single edits.
I assume that the contents are pasted from somewhere and marked as
proofread with yellow button.

https://hi.wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=%E0%A4%AA%E0%A5%83%E0%A4%B7%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%A0:%E0%A4%A8%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%B0%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%AE%E0%A4%B2%E0%A4%BE.pdf/%E0%A5%A7%E0%A5%A7%E0%A5%A7=history

We can see such high amount of such bytes contributions for a user here
https://hi.wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=%E0%A4%B5%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%B6%E0%A5%87%E0%A4%B7:%E0%A4%AF%E0%A5%8B%E0%A4%97%E0%A4%A6%E0%A4%BE%E0%A4%A8/%E0%A4%A8%E0%A5%80%E0%A4%B2%E0%A4%AE==500=%E0%A4%A8%E0%A5%80%E0%A4%B2%E0%A4%AE

on the date nov 15 2020

I hope the proofread contributions wont add 1000s of bytes in a single go
usually.

Is this kind of new addition of page content is considered for the
proofreadathon 2020?

Do we have a process to detect and avoid such bulk bytes additions on the
calculation of the points?

Please clarify on this.

It will help a lot to define guidelines for the future events.
