Ashwin, per https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Summer_of_Code_Past_Projects , some of our past GSoC students have continued to help the Wikimedia technical community, and some have been less permanent. Students who know that their work is desired by the community and who experience the joy of personal engagement are more likely to stick around. So please help me by inviting these students to local meetups and keeping an eye on their projects. It has been my experience that GSOC helps add to the skill-sets and experience of Wikipedians in India who are then able to help the community deal with technical issues and even construct special tools if required.
