Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] A Wikipedia success story to emulate

2013-11-16 Thread Vickram Crishna
Conceptually, this is similar to the effort made in India over the last
couple of years, and it is heartening that the failure here is not
representative of the end of the road.

However, the degree of buy-in from the institution, obvious in the remarks
made by the professor, as well as hints of a certain degree of commitment,
in this case to the subject matter, on the part of the active editors, is
telling. I am sure we may have had some examples of a similar nature here
too, but perhaps we tried too soon to attempt scaling it up.

There is mention of an 'official' input from Wikimedia, and there may be
some data there that will give us a clue about how the many difficult
bridges were traversed. If anyone from this list was involved, please do
share your experience.

A similar course is underway in the Tel-Aviv University, and it was covered
in major newspapers:

An important part of the course is actually teaching the students about the
little details of working with the Wikipedia community and understanding
the technical part of Wikipedia. It's working out pretty well.
