The sense of porn differs culture to cultures. We cannot rely on that. And I think we have talked enough in this matter. As far as I know Commons is blocked in Iran, and it's their call. Commons is here to host educational and informational images and to server other Wikimedia projects by hosting free files. As soon as they are okay, with all those, they are okay with Commons. You can discuss about Commons' things here for years but it will not take effect. We discussed things about this in Commons-l mailing list (dedicated for Wikimedia Commons) in past, but the decision we made came from on-wiki discussion. Nudity is art for some, porn for others. Its perspective which matters. Say what? There two separate things here. 1. Chapter's are indeed not responsible for content - that holds true for *everyone* except the people who post content. 2. That a Chapter is not responsible for content, by design, does not mean they lose any right to speak as a Chapter or otherwise especially with respect to things a community can take a stand about - the personal image filter being one of them. A Chapter that is the voice of a community can do many things with respect to content. I don't see the two positions as being immiscible. Thank you. When I meant responsible, its not just responsible as in liable, but also responsible for content generation, content policies. AFAIK all chapters maintain this line and do not enter into content discussions. 2. Okay, I was wrong if you strictly read the line when I said they loose the right, I meant moral right to comment on a content issue. Sure Chapters can have a stand, comment, its up to community to consider it while taking the decision. As Tanvir pointed out nothing on this list will help, and extending a bit IMHO nothing that chapter comments would have a special value more than an individual community member even though one defines Chapter as voice of community. Just curious, What are those many things that you feel chapter can do with content? -- Regards Srikanth.L ___ Wikimediaindia-l mailing list Wikimediaindia-l@lists.wikimedia.org To unsubscribe from the list / change mailing preferences visit https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimediaindia-l

All it took for me to get it unblocked was a 25 min conversation with Head of IT dept. She did the needful to unblock Commons. Suggest talking to the college's/cyber cafe's network administrator first to unblocking websites. This is the best way forward, the IT admin of colleges, cafes always have the option of overriding default filter lists. Students/colleges should be encouraged to get contact the admins and get commons/wikipedia unblocked and have free unrestricted access just like the local intranet. it will encourage using wikipedia as a reference and more students to contribute. I remember i needed to pay to browse the web at my engg college. i had made a request to make wikipedia free for access, but back at the time in 2005, the admins did not take it seriously, times might have changed now. -- j.mp/ArunGanesh http://j.mp/ArunGanesh ___ Wikimediaindia-l mailing list Wikimediaindia-l@lists.wikimedia.org To unsubscribe from the list / change mailing preferences visit https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimediaindia-l
