This is very much true. There are many computer users who are conformable
only with inscript typing while typing in their mother tongue. And most of
them doesn't like to use transliteration.

And most of them call inscript as
*ISM
*.

Suppose we go to village fair, we will have people who will be comfortable
with inscript. It will be even better to have alphabetic ordered on

Hi Arjuna,

Thank you, Arjuna. This is the good stuff.

I would recommend increasing the size of the text-box for input after the
selection of the language and script. Also, most users at public kiosks are
more likely to use phonetic input rather than inscript.

Arun,

Thanks for your feedback. I would like to expand the scope of search to
Government and other Non profit institutions as mentioned in the blog link
from the site. Also, I want people to experience the clicking of characters
on the next page.

Cheers

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] Gyanpad (Knowledge kiosk) web app: Easyinterface to search Wikipedia and sister sites in Indian languages

2010-09-16 Thread Shiju Alex
Arjuna,

This is good. Thanks for this. .

Hope the devide will be devoid of all rendering issues especially for the
languages like Oriya.

I have few suggestions

   1. Support for languages like Assamese/Punjabi is very much required.
   2. The inscript keyboard option should be there for all the languages.
   3. Let the user select the language name first, the keyboad option can be
given (phonetic/inscript) in the next screen.
   4. A better user interface can be provided for the homepage.

Hope soon someone will develop a device for this. Supporting all the Indian
language scripts without any rendering issues will be a challenge. May be we
may need to try the web font embedding technology.

Arjuna,

Just test drove the site. I think this is a great beginning in letting people
access sites and query wikimedia content in Indian languages without having to
worry about having to configure a language specific keyboard on a given PC.

It would be great if you could also link to all the Wikimedia sites in that
language after the screen key board is chosen.
