Asaf, thanks to you, I got alerted and could support whatever seemed
worthwhile to me in the context of English Wikimedia projects :)
Thanks

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] reminder: ends in a few hours: Community Tech Wishlist Survey

2015-12-15 Thread Asaf Bartov
Thanks, Ashwin!

Manoj, thanks for bringing up this need. It won't make it into this round
of prioritization, but it can be added to the backlog. I would happily
create a Phabricator ticket on your behalf, but I need to better understand
the need you describe. Where would you like to use Indic numerals,
exactly? In template parameters, for example? (i.e. instead of the 1 and 2
in: {{some_template|1=this|2=that}}?)

Could you give some examples of what you meant?

Thanks,

A.

2015-12-15 Thread Niharika Kohli
Hi Manoj,

Unfortunately it’s a little too late to propose new projects in the survey. :(
Sorry.

We did publicize the survey on all village pumps and on Wikimedia-l/Wikitech-l.
Please let us know a better way to publicize the survey next time so that you
don’t miss it again. We’ll be holding it periodically (every year).

Thanks.

AFAIK, Indian numerals can not be used in calculations

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] reminder: ends in a few hours: Community Tech Wishlist Survey

2015-12-15 Thread omshivaprak...@gmail.com
Already there is a bug related to this topic here: -
https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T21412

For Kannada many template reporting this issue were fixed by applying the
solution mentioned in the thread.

Check the comment by :bzimport
===

As long as {{#time}} supplies you with Kannada digits, you need to use
{{format:KANNADA_INTEGER|R}} (note "R" argument). For example, you can use
this to fix the issue:

{{#ifexpr:{{formatnum:{{#time:t|{{{year|2000}}}-{{{month|jan}|R}}>28|29}}

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] reminder: ends in a few hours: Community Tech Wishlist Survey

2015-12-14 Thread Manoj Khurana
Hi Asaf,
Sorry for pitching in late. Can you please take up a project with concerned
teams to address a very big concern of Hindi Wikipedia, and I assume this
must be the issue in all other indic wukis too.

Can we have some arrangement where indic numerics are accepted in all
functions and templates for carrying out calculations just like normal
numbers?

Presently indic numerics are treated by software as mere symbols and can
not be used for calculations. This is creating huge problems for us in
maintenance tasks.

I am not from any technical background, so I have highlighted the problem
in layman's language. I do hope our friends with software background will
help in defining the issue in technical terms.

Regards,
Manoj.
