A heads up that there is a new database of historic (c19th) English prisons:
https://www.prisonhistory.org/
This is a pretty canonical database - I can't think of anything like it 
for any other place or period - with a wealth of detail, and much fine 
supporting material.
Have been adding links to it on historic prisons pages, but obviously 
can be used to create and enhance entries.
