[Wikimediauk-l] Fwd: [dorkbotlondon-blabber] Fwd: [80c] Fw: disposal of classical vinyl records
Any interest for Wikimedians? Gordo -- Forwarded message -- From: Butler, Pamelapamela.but...@camden.gov.uk Date: 23 February 2012 15:23 Subject: disposal of classical vinyl records To: lis-pub-l...@jiscmail.ac.uk Dear All ** ** We have a very large collection of Beethoven vinyl records (part of our special collection) which we wish to dispose of. I have tried specialist libraries (including the Sound Archive), music shops, colleges, classical societies and collectors without success. We are now considering recycling services but I welcome any ideas to further their use. ** ** Pamela Butler Senior Officer, Learning and reading Culture and Sport Culture and environment **London** Borough of Camden Telephone: 020 7974 8693 Web: camden.gov.ukhttp://www.camden.gov.uk/ Camden** ** Town Hall, Argyle Street London WC1H 8NN Please consider the environment before printing this email. ** ** - End forwarded message - ___ Wikimedia UK mailing list wikimediau...@wikimedia.org http://mail.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimediauk-l WMUK: http://uk.wikimedia.org

We could think more long term and start building up a collection of things to digitise and make available once their copyright expires. What copyright term are we talking about for something like this? 50 years? Or would it be a life+70 thing? If it's just 50 years, then that may not be too long to wait. ___ Wikimedia UK mailing list wikimediau...@wikimedia.org http://mail.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimediauk-l WMUK: http://uk.wikimedia.org

If it's just 50 years, then that may not be too long to wait. 70 years assuming no further extensions. However Beethoven recordings are so common that they are unlikely to be of any real interest to us. In practice about the only things that are old enough to be of interest to us and that we would actually be able to digitalise are shellac-based 78s. -- geni ___ Wikimedia UK mailing list wikimediau...@wikimedia.org http://mail.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimediauk-l WMUK: http://uk.wikimedia.org
