Dear All

** **

We have a very large collection of Beethoven vinyl records (part of our
special collection) which we wish to dispose of.

I have tried specialist libraries (including the Sound Archive), music
shops, colleges, classical societies and collectors without success.

We are now considering recycling services but I welcome any ideas to
further their use.

It's difficult to pass up an opportunity such as this, and I wonder
why there was no interest from the other bodies. What is the cost:
shipping only, or are they trying to make a sale?

Probably not. Vinyl means to recent to be public domain. Wax cylinders
would be of more interest.

We could think more long term and start building up a collection of things
to digitise and make available once their copyright expires.

What copyright term are we talking about for something like this? 50 years?
Or would it be a life+70 thing? If it's just 50 years, then that may not be
too long to wait.

70 years assuming no further extensions. However Beethoven recordings
are so common that they are unlikely to be of any real interest to us.
In practice about the only things that are old enough to be of
interest to us and that we would actually be able to digitalise are
shellac-based 78s.
