Re: [Wikisource-l] Google Code-In: Standardisation of templates.

2013-10-29 Thread Aarti K. Dwivedi
Hey David,
I think finding TEI equivalent of Wikisource templates is a great idea. I
am willing to mentor
but during the initial stages of the program my end-semester exams overlap
with the program.
Also, I haven't written any Lua modules for Wikisource before but I can
manage that. Is anyone
else interested in mentoring?

Cheers,

[Wikisource-l] Google Code-In: Standardisation of templates.

2013-10-26 Thread Aarti K. Dwivedi
Hello everyone,

Google Code-in starts on 18 November. It is aimed at pre-university
students aged 13-17. You can

find more information
here[1].
It is a contest and tasks are rated separately. Since, this would be the
first

time most of the contestants would be coding something in FOSS and would
have relatively less expertise,

the projects are supposed to small. I would be really glad if one of the
contestants from Wikimedia, works

on a Wikisource related task.
This[2]
link
mentions that there are some templates which are common to

a few Wikisources, but have been developed independently.

I understand that the reason is dependency on other templates, which follow
different development routines.

In my opinion, templates that serve the same purpose on various Wikisources
can be just one module,

instead of several implementations, as is the current situation. Although I
am not aware of all the templates

that are used on various Wikisources,

I would suggest that a common template be used for displaying the author
boxes on author pages. The

design need not be the same but the backend can be shared.

Challenges involved:

1. Deciding an optimal design of the template so that it works properly on
all Wikisources/

2. Making sure the new template does not break any template that was
initially dependent on the author template.

In my opinion, point 3 would be the most notorious of all the challenges to
be handled.

It would be great if someone from each Wikisource could tell how other
templates are dependent on

the "author" template. It might be a bit overwhelming for a newcomer, so I
would prefer doing the standardisation

of templates for the Wikisources, for which there are least dependencies on
the author template

I would like feedback from the community on the idea before I propose it on
the code-in page[3].

Re: [Wikisource-l] About texts without supporting files and "Index:" pages

2013-06-12 Thread Aarti K. Dwivedi
If I am not wrong, as of today, most books that were born digital, are
still under copyright. Of course, they are available freely on the
internet. But we can't use the pirated copies. How would we go about the
procurement of these books?
If we procure these copyrighted books, then the only we would have to do is
to check for proper formatting. Isn't it?

Re: [Wikisource-l] About texts without supporting files and "Index:" pages

2013-06-10 Thread Aarti K. Dwivedi
Hi,

There was a thread some time ago where there were talks of having books
which were born digital. These pages wouldn't have scans.
What the 'Index' page would have in these cases is something I am not very
sure about.

Cheers,
Rtdwivedi

Hi,

A spellchecker would be a really nice feature to have. I will try to
make it highly customable.

[Wikisource-l] Refactoring of Proofread Page Extension

2013-05-29 Thread Aarti K. Dwivedi
Hello Everyone,

I am Aarti K. Dwivedi, and have been accepted into the Google Summer
of Code 2013 for the project 'Refactoring of Proofread Page
Extension'. You can find the accepted proposal here
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/User:Rtdwivedi#GSoC_2013_Proposal . I am a 2nd
year undergraduate at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee.

We will be doing some improvements in Proofread Page extension and
will try to integrate it with Visual Editor. If you find any problems with
the extension please file a bug on bugzilla and assign it to me. I am
looking forward to your suggestions and feedback.

Cheers,
Aarti K. Dwivedi
