Is there a bug filed for this. If not please do so. MediaWiki should be
compatible with newer PHP versions.

We need more details. Which version of MediaWiki do you use ?
I never encountered any problems with the latest PHP versions
5.5.0...5.5.7 and
rolled back
to 5.4, and it's working fine.
