It works, but unlike apps/ios/wikipedia, APIW is not a human-readable
 identifier for a repository.

There was a long discussion about callsigns, and this is what it was agreed:

https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Phabricator/Diffusion/Callsign_naming_conventions
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Phabricator/Diffusion/Callsign_naming_conventions/Existing_repositories

APIW == AP(ps)I(os)W(ikipedia)

Guessing where cars come from is a fun game in countries that still encode
geographical references in their license plates (Germany are the masters
{{citation needed}} with 1, 2, and 3 letter codes based on the size
population of the department). Callsigns are exactly like license plates,
and now all Wikimedia tech fans can play this game with our repositories.

Re: [Wikitech-l] [gerrit] EUREKA!

2015-02-04 Thread MZMcBride
Nice find. The link used to be labeled tree I believe. I'm not sure
it's more discoverable as gitblit, but some of this is moot as I
imagine Gitblit won't survive 2015. Assuming Gerrit stays around for a
while longer, perhaps it would be best to change the link in the Gerrit
user interface to read view source code instead of diffusion when we
switch to Phabricator's Diffusion for hosting/viewing repositories.

I don't know if Gerrit will survive 2015. It will one day be replaced by
Phabricator's Differential, probably. I personally don't mind Gerrit.

Hooray! Thank you for this! Gerrit's multi-tab diff has been my biggest
pain point in migrating from GitHub.
