Wine is NOT passing the --winver parameter to the child process.
So what I did (I know that's not right, but I needed this working):
Edit misc/version.c and changed line (193 of wine-20020411)

Yes, Duane Clark pointed this out already.
Apparently, the lpr that shpis with lindowsOS is incomplete for some
reason. We're looking into fixing it. I just submitted the patch because
I think it is more correct, and there is a possibility that other
systems that have cups might not have

on a small set of directories a couple of times (once my patch for /w is
on). The first time it writes to the screen without scrolling and all is ok,
the second time as it scrolls, it misses off 'Total files
