We have a building that is 300ft tall with an office at the bottom off to
the corner.Initially we ran Cat5E to see if we could get a basic link, use
it to determine the
length of the run and then order fiber.

So, we plug one end into a Mikrotik RB1000 and the other end into a Dell
desktop
gigabit switch and run a btest from the laptop.  To our surprise, we are
seeing
500Mbps down!  How is this possible?  I thought we'd be lucky to get 100Mbps
at that range, how are we getting gigabit speed?

Nothing special about the cable, just outdoor-rated, non-shielded outdoor
cable
run in plastic flex-conduit most of the way and then in metal conduit
through
the parking garage.

Did we just get lucky?
