Thanks for posting this great paper, Jack! It gives an excellent history of

The least painful way is just to have Apache do the redirection for you.
RedirectPermanent / http://www
Either an HTTP redirect in the webpage, or a Server-side redirect, or a DNS
CNAME will get you there.

I believe the Mikrotik RouterBoard 200's will take PCMCIA cards, allowing
use of the Orinoco cards.
They're getting hard to find, but they are still around.

The proper way to do this is to have the DNS record changed. Maybe you have
done this but need a stopgap measure?

The Orinoco AP series was a really rock solid radio. I still have many that
are trucking along!
I sure wish they were still around (as who they really were- not Proxim).
