Re: [WISPA] Trango APEX data / mgmt cable connection question
Trango Apexes and Dragonwaves use the same type cable Entry fitting. They are the highest quality fitting on the market in my opinion for THIN outdoor Cat5. Shireen outdoor shielded directburiel cable fits through just fine, and I recommend the use of it, for Trango Apexes. HOWEVER, IF you use THICK outdoor direct buriel cable such as Superior Essex, Beldon, or Mohawk (.4- .45), it will NOT fit through, and makes a very poor design. It is disappointing that there is not an optional Passthru fitting for thicker cable. With Superior Essex what we have to do is, we strip off the outer PVC layer and then the inner layer will fit through the fitting. Obviously this leave a water liabilty to the inside of the outer layer. So... That means water proofing it with Mastic and Electrical tape, just like any other COAX connector needing sealed. This is not pretty. However, the Superior Essex's inner rubbery shield does offer some water proofing, so its not that bad. The connectors are called the Conec system. They can be bought from Conec or Digikey. What we really need to do is convince Conec to amke a revised version to accept the larger diameter Cable. [WISPA] BBC Arcticle- TitleII reclass
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8734347.stm The Broadband Internet Technical Advisory Group, formed by ATT, Verizon, Comcast, Google, Intel and Microsoft, will develop consensus on broadband network management practices or other related technical issues that can affect users' internet experience. This or any other voluntary effort is not a substitute for the government setting basic rules of the road for the internet, said Chris Riley, policy counsel at Free Press a Washington based advocacy group. Allowing industry to set its own rules is like allowing BP to regulate its drilling. As many know, I am a strong advocate AGAINST TItleII reclassification. As well, I've always been a huge fan of Copps over the years, but I sit on the opposite side of the table regarding the TitleII Reclassification topic. But the text above from the BBC arcticle is super scary. Probably the worst threat of NOT implementing NetNeutrality in some capacity, is that there would be no regulation to guarantee that content would not be blocked from small Internet providers. Without Content neutrality, small ISPs are vulnerable. AKA the ESPN360 Issue. (note: Just got another call today, from a retail venue customer asking why they cant get ESPN360 over my network, to view the WorldCUP ? And that customer is now deciding, whether to switch to Comcast or not, because they have no other chocie if they want that content. The last thing in the world we want is a group operated by ATT, Verizon, Comcast, Google, Intel, and Microsoft, THE GOLIATHS OF ATTEMPTING TO CONTROL CONTENT AND HIJACK the INTERNET AS THEIR OWN, to define what is fair in Netneutrlaity and CONTENT NEUTRALITY. I'd rather the FCC regulate it, than have our competition Regulate it. However, Copp makes a strong statement that If the Commission fails to reassert its authority, then the days of the open internet will be succeeded by the age of the gatekeepers, said Commissioner Copps. There is some truth to that. But when will they learn that the threat is not blocking Content, the Threat to the INternet is Blocking Competition, and Content from smaller competitive ISPs? I'm not so concerned about the FCC regaining their authority, as I am about them getting the message about what they'd really need to do, if they regained authority. What the FCC should do instead is Fund a Law Suit on behalf of consumers and small ISPs, against the monopolies for business tort and anticompetive practices and video content distribution violations. The FCC doesn't need authority to rule to replace the courts, all they need is authroirty to represent consumers (and Competition) in Court. The FCC lost the battle that they did not have authority to control Comcast's network. But so what. They did not fight the battle yet on whether Comcast's practices were Anti-Competitive based on the other laws that pre-exist. Would it not make sense to test the other angles of pre-existing laws first? Re: [WISPA] Burying Cable
I use direct bury, shielded, flooded cable exclusively for all installs in ground or above. Haven't had any water issues at all concerning cable. We have some moles but been lucky by not having them do any damage to us. I do, however, always put conduit where the cable exits the ground and up to either out of reach or where it enters a building. Keeps the weed whackers away! Bob- Oh, and for the flooded portion, I have had a lot of people turn their nose up at flooded cable because, as they say, the gel leaks out. So. I hung a 300 foot length vertical from a tower for 2 months, not for this but because I got sidetracked... happens anyhow, bottom end was left raw and no gel leakage. I was expecting a big glop of goop but it was all good. Temp was in the high 80's for at least 2 weeks of that time. The stuff I use now has the gel that is more of a lotion and not like the icky-pik paraffin wax stuff that I'm glad to get rid of even though it's still stuck to everything in the van. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: RIPEMD160 oic now. I never go to http://google.com so I don't see that. I simply use the google searchbox and then see the results page. I also have installed a popup searchbox which I can invoke anytime by typing, CTRL + CTRL. That way, I don't even need to CTRL + T and then TAB to open a new browser tab and place me in the google searchbox, one just pops up and I enter my search terms and hit enter. A new tab then opens with the search results. One of the first things I disable in windows is the, fade effect. and now it seems Google's doing that with their landing page, slowing things up, or not showing the entire page until you move/hover the mouse over some portion of that page. The results pages, however, appear to be the same as before. For home page settings in browsers I setup, I typically use: about:blank or on windows machines, I might use: file:///c:/, which loads quickly - especially when the browser is initially launched. Explain to your customer that you do not trench and you have to run cable across the yard. Lay the cable out and tell them to bury it. I tell my customers to bury the cable buy placing a shovel in the sod and just cutting down far enough to get under the sod. Then stuff in the wire. This technique does not apply if the customer: Runs horses as lawn mowers. [WISPA] Miami TDWR Data needs an adjustment
I want to thank Faisal Imtiaz of Snappy Internet and Telecom for pointing out that the TDWR location data on our website at http://www.wispa.org/?page_id=2384 is not correct. The "Miami" coordinates are actually for the Memphis TDWR. It looks like the FAA "slipped" by one line by recopying the Memphis data onto the Miami line in the data table that we were given. I'm already checking to obtain the official, correct Miami coordinates. Until I receive the official data and we can get it onto our website, the unofficial coordinates that Google Earth shows for the Miami TDWR are N 25.762499, W -80.478884. By the way, TDWRs are often not located right on the airport that they protect. They are usually located a couple of miles away where they have a clearer view of the horizon. If you see a suspected error in the TDWR data, please let me know offlist and we'll work to publish the correction. Thanks, jack -- Jack Unger - President, Ask-Wi.Com, Inc. [WISPA] Is this a record of some kind?
This evening I was at one of my access points... one that has several backhauls and various 2.4 and 5 ghz ap's at it. After I was done with my few minutes of doing things, I wanted to make sure I had not physically disconnected or accidentally unhooked anything (messing with the batteries, checking water levels, etc).I pulled out a netbook. Acer Aspire One to be precise, running windows xp, using the normal wifi card it came with. I fired it up (it is set to any so it simply associates to the access points that are open at home, work, etc), and after I was done, noted it said it was connected, at which point I opened google on the browser to confirm connectivity. Google popped up, meaning things were connected, and then I decided to run a speed test. I got about 30KB/s speed, which is like painfully slow. I was standing outside, with the netbook sitting on the hood of my truck. So, I decided to see what it was associated to, and it was another access point ... 11 MILES AWAY! I confirmed it by the SSID and by the ip dhcp had assigned, as belonging to the ap 11 miles distant. It has no external antenna, just the one the factory built into the netbook. I have detected, using netstumbler and the internal antenna on my laptop (dell C610 and CM9 installed) access points over 24 miles away before, but this is the longest, by far, I have been able to get a real connection, dhcp assignment, and transfer data. ++ Neofast, Inc, Making internet easy 541-969-8200 509-386-4589 ++ WISPA Wants You!
