Subject: [WISPA] Need some quick trango help

Hi All,

Got a strange one here.

I have a 5830 AP with 4 customers on it. 3 have no complaints, 1 gets 300
to 400k downloads and 1000 to 3000 uploads.

All links are less than one mile and are within 1/4 mile of each other.

Two are right across the street from each other.

Yesterday we had a few strange things happen so I went hunting for the
cause. While looking I noticed customer B was my top bandwidth user and he
stayed there for at least 30 minutes.

As a part of trying to get customer A working better I thought I'd try
turning off customer B (across the street and on the same AP as customer A).

I shut down customer B (oh yeah, all CPE are Fox SE 5800) and ran a speed
test at customer A. Now they got 6000 down and 5000 up. Turn customer B
back on and customer A went back down to unusable service.

Here's the strange part, I can run the same speed test at customer B and
they get good speeds all of the time. 8000 to 9000 down, 7000 to 8000 up.
Theoretical max on the Trango system. So I don't think that they are
causing this problem due to steady usage.

The only thing that's popping out in my mind is that customer B has a newer
radio (it was replaced last year or so). Could this somehow be a firmware
issue?

Neither customer has a programmed preference over the other one at the AP
level. The other two customers on the AP haven't called with problems.

If anyone can call me with some advice this am I'd sure appreciate it.
509.988.0260 Customer A (the nearly dead one) has a big project due this
afternoon and I'm at a loss so far.

Thanks,
marlon

[WISPA] Tranzeo TR-SL9 Performs Worse than TR-902s in NLOS Conditions

2009-08-04 Thread Kelly Shaw
Dear WISPA Friends,

We've been testing the latest Tranzeo TR-SL9 radios and are seeing some
weird issues.

In line of sight conditions, the radio performs superbly. But when using
these same radios in near line of sight conditions, they perform 10-20 dBi
worse than the equivalent TR-902 radio with comparable gain antenna. We are
using the latest firmware load.

If you have see this problem, have you been able to solve it?

[WISPA] Remote Backup Services

2006-06-01 Thread Kelly Shaw

I've been selling
a remote backup service to my wireless customers using a product called
Remote-Back (www.remote-backup.com). It is
rather pricey and I'm wondering what the rest of you may be using?

This is a very easy
way to up-sell our customers and generate some extra revenue. The main selling
point is that as wireless ISPs, we can offer high speed UPLOADS as well as
downloads. Our DSL competitors have a hard time doing this.

[WISPA] Outsource 24 Hour Technical Support for HotSpot

2006-06-16 Thread Kelly Shaw

We have installed a
set of HotSpots for a local Hotel. They are looking to us to provide 24 hour
technical support for their clients on an as-needed basis. Since we are a
small shop and I have no desire to answer calls at all hours in the morning, we
are looking to see if there is a way we can outsource these
calls.

I'd imagine that
there would be at the most 1 or 2 calls per day from this one customer.

If you have any
ideas, I'd appreciate knowing.

Works really great. I guess that I need to order more than 1 the next time
they get them in stock. Their website shows a negative value in stock.

http://www.gambitdesign.com/bandwidthmeter/ is a decent one. It tests
download only.

You can run something like Qcheck (google that one) or use Mikrotik's
bandwidth tester (there is a windows client).

If you are looking for a fancy version, you can license the one from
http://www.ookla.com/speedtest/. That's a pretty expensive option, though.

[WISPA] OTARD and Wireless Broadband

2007-02-06 Thread Kelly Shaw
Folks,

http://wireless.fcc.gov/siting/otard.html

I just heard about a local Virginia WISP who used the OTARD rule to site a
tower.

Has anyone else used this ruling to apply to Wireless Broadband where a
tower is placed on a property owner's land and then service offered to the
property owner on a secondary basis?

I see various writeups on the topic on the 'net, but can't find one that
specifically differentiates between the siting of an antenna versus a
tower with and antenna on it.

[WISPA] SecureServer.Net Arbitrary Blocking

2007-03-15 Thread Kelly Shaw
Surely I cannot be the only one out there with this problem with
secureserver.net and their arbitrary blocking scheme.

We've been getting customer complaints that their email is being rejected
with something like:
Dynamic pool 12.xx.xx.xx. http://unblock.secureserver.net/?ip=12.xx.xx.*

We don't have a spamming problem and work actively to get our customer's
virus-ridden machines cleaned up. We also are not listed in any Real Time
Blacklists, yet they still have us blocked.

Emails to their service go unanswered.

One reponse they gave to one of our customers was that they were using an
improper reverse DNS entry. Yet, their forward and reverse DNS entries
match and are self explanatory.

Am I the only one dealing with these crazy people?

As some of you may know, the Trango pigtails (RP-SMA) leave a lot to be

Right now, we've had to replace all of our last batch of Hyperlink pigtails.
