[WISPA] Calea compliance contractors

2008-11-25 Thread Christopher Orr
Hi all-

I'm just curious if anyone has a contact for someone that is
a CALEA compliance contractor.

Essentially we are looking for a third party that can verify
compliance.

Hit me offlist, please.

Regards,
-chris

There's an "In mother Russia" joke in here some where...

Joking aside, there is big money in building telcos in Nigeria.

Some Los Angeles based VCs I work with are working with the government
in building out their network infrastructure. Getting the rights to
work/sell there is tricky, but once they attained them, things got
 easier.

Re: [WISPA] Network Monitor

2008-08-01 Thread Christopher Orr
Jim-

Personally, I like Nagios because you can make it monitor literally
-anything-.

In a previous life, we had it monitoring the server room door. If it
was open for more than ~5 minutes, it "nagged" us.

Then again, it all depends on how much you care. For me, these days
caring doesn't happen often so I'd probably use The Dude. ;-)

Re: [WISPA] GSM - WiFi handover

2008-04-18 Thread Christopher Orr
Rogelio-

I believe T-Mobile has that service.
[EMAIL PROTECTED] is the brand.

I looked at it myself for a couple minutes, but their coverage in my
area over all isn't great.

Thanks,
-chris

Re: [WISPA] Billing suggestings

2008-01-14 Thread Christopher Orr

Ross-

In the past, I've looked pretty hard at BillMax. (http://www.billmax.net)

It runs on open source operating systems and database software, and if
there is a major explosion you can

call someone for help.

It seemed to fit the bill at the time (9 years ago! Yikes!).

Best of luck,
-chris

Hey guys,

I am in a pickle here with my client tracking database. We had a
propriatary softward made for us and it is not a great scenario for us.
This software stored data in an access database and primarily was client
contact, reminding renewals for mailing bills...etc...

What are you all using that might be a good transition for me...

Thanks in advance...

I too would say the same. Initially they did a good job, but soon after
they began to be in effective and variable. We contacted them and got very
little satisfaction. so, we are now trying mikrotiks at every tower. like
a 333... details will follow with our success or failure. We have
implemented them at 4 or 5 towers and will be puting them at 30 towers...

We purchased a NetEqualizer last year, and we weren't impressed. It did not
perform well compared to the Emerging Technologies box we use. The rate
limits were not effectively enforced.

I have been considering the Net Equalizer as a possible platform for
bandwidth management. I know that topics like this often lead to a
myriad of posts about bandwidth management normally. If possible I would
like to hear feedback from people who have actually used this one
appliance to hear about any advantages or disadvantages to use of this
device for managing bandwidth in WISP networks. I appreciate hearing
from any past or present users of the Net Equalizer platform.
All the best,
John Scrivner
