[WISPA] E-Rate Process

2007-11-08 Thread David Wilson
Ladies and Gentlemen: Could someone provide an explanation of the
E-Rate process?

Specifically, I would like to understand the application process (front
end) and then the spending (back end) terms and conditions.

Thanks in advance for the effort.

All the best,

We do a lot of shows. For this industry, we've found ISPCON and WISPCON
to
be of the most value. WiNOG was headed that way, but it is now dormant.

There are lots of other shows that WISPs can enjoy and learn from: VON,
WCA, NTCA Annual Meeting, IP Possibilities, and the regional ILEC shows.
We
also show at LinuxWorld (now one per year) and plan to go to Interop
this
Spring.

Any of them that you can learn from.

We've participated in ISPCon, WISPCon, and WiNOG that I can think of off
the
top of my head.

I think ISPCon is probably the most well rounded. The others are much
more
focused on various wisp market segments.

[WISPA] Colubris Networks

2007-01-30 Thread David Wilson
Hello to the WISPA Community. Some of you may remember me since I
started my wireless career in 1998 with BreezeCOM. After working with
several wireless Manufacturers, I have found a home with Colubris
Networks. I have always found value in this list so with my new
position as the Western Regional Sales Manager I wanted to join and
participate in this list as well as provide my contact information for
any that may need my assistance.

RE: [WISPA] Colubris Networks

2007-01-30 Thread David Wilson
Thanks for the welcome George.

I have been speaking to Marlon on the subject and we are trying to
determine if a Colubris solution will benefit WISPA.

Colubris Networks's focus is to manufacturer high quality, intelligent
line of products for the Service Providers that focus on WLAN for
Education, Hospitality, Manufacturing, Transportation and Healthcare.
We would be very interested in how many of you focus on outdoor fixed
broadband VS WLAN VS mesh VS anything the previous didn't cover.

Bottom Line - If we discover that we can benefit this organization then
we help ourselves by participating. We are in the discovery mode and
open to all comments.

Thanks again George.

[WISPA] RE: alternate power

2005-09-07 Thread David Wilson
Thanks Marlon. Actually Joe Miller and Tim Wolfe are asking about the
alternative power products.

A more appropriate contact for donations is Michael Anderson since he's
working with Electro-Comm to warehouse and stage the gear before putting
it to use. Michael's e-mail is [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks to anyone that can help.

Thanks again Marlon.

Subject: alternate power

Hi All,

I had a call from David Wilson with Smartbridges. He's in need of some
solar and/or wind gear for the Katrina areas. I know I've seen some
info
from one of these lists about where to get alternate power sources.

I know EC has solar kits now but I don't know how much is in stock. And

they've already donated quite a bit of gear

A couple of ideas that I had to get people by (for those that need it
now or
need it later) are:
Run some wires from your vehicle battery to the back (make sure you are
not
in a trunk or something enclosed!!!) and use that to charge a
battery(s).
Use deep cell and/or big tractor batteries and run your gear that's
natively
12 vdc from them and just change out the batteries as needed. Charge
the
dead ones while you drive.
Also, many ups units are 12 vdc powered for the backup. I'd not be
afraid
to hook up a slug of batteries in parallel and run a wire right through
the
side of the case. Swap out one battery at a time and you'll have no
outages. I'll bet 3 or 4 car batteries would keep an ups unit with a
wpop
on it running for days.

Hope this helps! And if you know anyone that can help with alternate
power
systems please contact David directly asap.

thanks!
