I tried to figure this same problem out for two months.

She could IM and video her daughter in Chicago. She could IM, but not
video her daughter in Germany. Her daughter in Germany could IM and
video her daughter in Chicago.

Seemed to be a combination of firewalls, NAT, and software version
conflicts, at least for my customer.

She and her daughters switched to Yahoo.

Re: [WISPA] AIM Video issues

2006-07-12 Thread Scott Reed

Mainly because it is not my call.  The setup is being done by a computer consultant.  He setup the machine that went to Iraq and the one locally.  Now they don't talk.  But he can talk to the one in Iraq from his office (not on my network.)  So, my concern is that there may be an issue with my network that will impact other customers trying to do video on AIM.

Hm.  What router do you use?
Mikrotik for internal, Cisco at the border

 What

firewalling are you doing?
SonicWall 2040 - I have it set to log all local traffic that it blocks and there is nothing in the log.

What are you using for upstream

connectivity?

Qwest T-1

Mainly because it is not my call.  The
setup

is being done by a computer consultant.  He setup the machine that went

to Iraq and the one locally.  Now they don't talk.  But he can talk

to the one in Iraq from his office (not on my network.)  So, my concern

is that there may be an issue with my network that will impact other customers

trying to do video on AIM.

If you're NAT'ing it will cause this - Netmeeting has issues like this too.
Public IP as others have suggested will probably solve it.

I would put a public on my laptop and see if it works elsewhere on my
network and work backwards from there. Not sure about your policy of
privates and publics, but it would be good to find out the reason.

Public on my laptop made it work.  We have already assigned a public to the customer's SOHO router.  She will test after she gets home from work this evening.

Thanks to all for the assistance.
