This is obviously a fiber bid. To get 1 Gb connectivity all the buildings need
to be a mile or less apart ideally. If they are more than that then you are
pretty much out of luck. Yeah yeah 80 GHz will do up to 2 miles but I prefer
the uptime.

The fiber company will need to trebch to install facilities which will cost a
bundle.

I would take an exception to the bid and quote a 200 (or higher) Mb. licensed
system. You could either charge them an installation price and let them own it
after that or lease it to them at a very low rate every month then take the
equipment back at the end of the contract. You supply them with Internet via
wireless and monitor the system 24 x 7. Of course this is considering you don't
need towers because those are a party killer. They radiate the population and
fall on the kids every day. They also cause cancer. <G>. Also don't use the
word "microwave" in your proposal. As soon as you say microwave people think of
little children that have been Napalm'd. Use "wireless link" or something
similar.

I maintain the largest school district in NY and they are only just now
upgrading their 45 Mb system. Gig is overated for a regular school district.

Its an uphill battle but if you throw enough poop at the wall sooner or later
some will stick. Everyone is looing at money right now so you may be in luck if
your price is considerably higher.

Yoi could also go to another school system where they have already won a bid to
provide service and get a copy of their bid and contract under the Freedom of
Information Act. Then you can pick it apart in your exception and see what
their pricing is like

Good Luck

Bob

Subject: [WISPA] City School Internet Bid...need help and advice from those
        who've done this.

We just received an invitation to bid for a 5 location city school 1Gbps
network, with 10 Mbps Internet Acces. Only way for us to get in the game is
with Gig RF links. Bids are due Feb 2nd.

Anybody done this for a school system that would give me some time and
advice? Would pay for services.

Thanks,
